Or after the suggestion for checking out Aria:
ntel Quad Core I5 750 Processor clocked at 3.80GHz
- ThermalRight MUX-120 Up-rated CPU Cooler
- Asus P55D Intel P55 Intel Mainboard
- 2 x ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 Graphics Card (Crossfire)
- 4096MB of 1333MHz DDR3 Memory (Dual Channel)
- 1TB 7200rpm 32MB Cache Hard Disk Drive
- Sony 24x Multi-DVD
- Xigmatek Asgard High-Airflow Gaming Black Case
- OCZ 600W Silent StealthXstream Power Supply
909.74. I've e-mailed them asking if they will upgrade it to 8GB of RAM and what the cost would be.
Would 2 x 5770 on crossfire be better than a single 5850? I have no idea how these things work anymore. I lost touch of things around the time I got my 8800GTS!

Ah no worries mate! I'm clueless on the graphics side of things too and have been since around the time Vodoo stopped doing cards tbh. :P The technology just seems to move so fast.
I'm being told the second comp wont even run both cards at their full capacity on crossfire because of the chipset. Also being told the first comp is much better all round so looking like my best option so far! I'm not looking forward to that sort of size bill though. I might have to sit in a corner sobbing while someone else puts the payment through for me haha.

lol, i can't imagine what its going to look like in your place too - i've seen the photos, you're setup is tidy as hell! very shiney!
the second option doesnt look as though its as good value for money - looks like you get a fair bit more with the first one - thought i would be warey of 64bit windows as some synths dont run on it yet, some wont even install - theres a few vinyl emulation softwares that still dont support 64bit computing either. so its a good idea to check what software you want to be using first :)

Haha cheers mate. :D Lovely room isn't it but will look much better with this new machine in there. ;) Better yet I'll keep the older one too and network them up for some good old fasioned multiplayer. The thought of all them cables is making me sweat a bit though.

Shame your not in Australia, I work at a retailer that gets parts cheap as chips. But based on what you already have I wouldn't mess around with a new Computer your specs are a good based to work with. Blu ray is absolutely useless for anything except media. and even then it's only for playback. Also only worry about Graph card for gaming or Garphic design.
If you want a computer for music, just look for the basics. Decent RAM (4GB+), 1/2 decent Chip (DC 2.3 +, pref a quad core) and everything else doesn't matter. Invest any extra money you would have spent on the computer on a kick ass sound card, and your computer will be what you want it to be :P

Ah it's for gaming also though mate! So needing the Graphics card.
I've already got an Echo Mia Midi soundcard so no need to touch that as it does what I need. I just need more RAW power and space in general for the music side too. By the time I've put more RAM in, changed the processor, hard drive, Graphics card and all that I may as well have got a new machine. Plus I can then network them for gaming and even resource sharing on Cubase. :)

With your current system, i wouldnt buy anything. No matter what you do with it.
Well maby add the extra HDD's, get the new win 7 (though Pro not home, if your looking for a proper system. It has e.g. win XP as a virtual machine for those old games and file encryption nativly. 'Cause if i remember right, you have vista now -> ewww.), maby get the blu-ray drive too and a new GPU if your current one isnt good enough for new games.
As far as graphics cards go, id rather install a dildo to my office chair strategically pointed towards my anus then get any Ati GPU. Ive never had anything else but problems with them. With like 4 different Ati cards, all sucking donkey balls. While the Nvidia cards have always worked well.

Whispering - I don't have enough power though! I definitely need a new processor as it's just not giving me enough juice in Cubase. I figure a new Quad Core will give me that power now that Cubase has decent quad support? More RAM can never hurt too surely. :P That's getting used up as it's spilling over onto using the HD in big projects.
I'll look at the differences on 7 pro and home! Didn't realise pro might have extras worth having.
