Since the release of HTID Vol 3, I've read reviews some of the users have written on HHC.com, and alot of "Oh, it sounds too much like Clubland". Now, my question is, what exactly to the "Clubland" sound, sound like compared to everyother Hardcore album out there? Me personally, found HTID 3 to be like another other Hardcore album, or basically any Hardcore mix.

So please, enlighten me...

The choons on HTID Vol 3 are all Clubland choons then it transfers over to Clubland X Treme with the same choons on there.

When people use Clubland in that sense they mean "it's too commercial sounding". I.E. rather than "hardcore" it sounds more like "Clubland (pop dance)".

Thats what I class as Clubland. The so called 'Clubland Sound' tends to be more Uplifting (yet repetitive) Trance Rifts sometimes in tune to the lyrics, fast basslines & the female vocals (although a large number of male vocals these days as well) This being a contrast to the 'Freeform' sound or breakbeat ect which are less 'commercial'

You seem to be missing out a vital element to one's thinking when applying the term "Clubland". And it's the one element that gets my goat. The Clubland Sound term isn't merely used to denote "Uplifting (yet repetitive) Trance Rifts sometimes in tune to the lyrics, fast basslines & the female vocals". It's used as a euthamism for "shit".

Uplifting, trancey rifts, female vocals. That's what hardocre IS for me.

Why can't people just say "I don't like it". Why do peope bring this connetation of "I don't like Clubland, that makes my taste in hardcore more superior to yours". Seriously ****s me off.

In any hardcore choon for me too female vocals are #1 no matter what male vocals are too boring to listen to.

I'm of the opinion that the Raverbaby/HTID/Clubland XHC haters are the real posers of the scene. If that style weren't so popular, none of them would care about it, it's just about them caring what other people think and not wanting that style to 'represent' the scene.

Yeah seems like the kewl thing to do. People think it makes them a hero because they slate clubland. They should be grateful record companies are willing to invest money into the scene. Sure some of the tracks are commercial and not everyones taste. But every hardcore complitation has shit songs.

I couldn't agree more, The way some people bang on is as if the style they listen to has amazing tunes and nothing but... smoogie is bad for this... he dusnt grasp the fact that hardcore sounds a lot better these days and is produced to a higher standard... yes u do get the odd shit tune thrown into the mix but most of it is good...

disagree

You can give someone any instrument, be it a pair of bongos or a cubase setup and the standard of music produced will only be as good as the person making it. Anyone can mess about on an 808 as can anyone mess about on cubase, doesn't matter whether you make it 90s style, 80s style or totally modern, good tunes will come from good producers and good engineers and in my humble opinion, as music has become more formulaeic, more producers have gotten lazy and created very substandard music.

In the end, good music is good music, I LOVE happy hardcore which musically probably couldn't hold a candle to 80s house but I like it more and that's the most important. However, facts are facts and the quality of electronic music has really gone downhill as time has gone on, and I don't believe this is because one era is better than another but because too many producers have become complacent. How many years on and we're STILL covering 'I wanna be a hippy' and borrowing melodies from old jungle tunes. Does that not tell you something?

Dude, you should listen to some of the tunes I have been getting into from 91/92. Production standards might not be so good but the raves where huge then and people loved those tunes. If the 'not so good qulity' tunes brought people in a larger number than the 'amazing qulity' (yer I know I can't spell it) tunes then it says alot for today's Hardcore. People remember Old Skool 20 years on. Who will remember 2008's biggest anthems in 2 years time? All sounds the same.

started off mostly right, but then you said the part 've put in italics, which is wrong, without being one of those haters yourself - you would never know the true reason, you can only guess at it!
