Been reading on the development of all the olympic games and this story caught my eye.
http://www.universalsports.com/news/article/newsid=509669.html#spurs+plan+build+venue+london+2012+site Apparently there's a lot of dispute on what's going to happen to the new stadium after the games leave London. Originally the plan was to downsize the stadium to 25,000 capacity and hold mostly track & field competitions, but now that there are others that are showing interest in the stadium and/or the land it sits on, one potential club owner might go as far as tearing it down to build a 60,000 capacity stadium to better suit its needs seems like an excess waste of money and resources to tear down something brand new as big as a stadium imo.

I'd rather it go to West Ham, than be scrapped.
Give it to us! COYS!

With the way the government is here am suprised they havent tried to scrap the idea. They seem to be making cuts on all kinds of things even really vital things,

I'm no expert on the history of athletics stadia but i imagine it's a lot more common than you think. Lots of countries have built a massive stadium for the Olympics/Commonwealth games/etc but ended up with them being used for something else.
If it was kept as it is after the olympics, sad truth is that it wouldn't get used for anything major afterwards - and athletics itself won't bring enough custom to pay the overheads!

I can't imagine it would be wasted, there are plenty of clubs that would love to take it.
especially after how much bloody money it's cost.
Does anyone know what south africa did with all of the stadiums left after the world cup?
I can imagine they are of basically no use to S.A, everyone's shit scared to go there.

Wasn't quite so much fuss over the Commonwealth games stadium in Manchester!

This.
Rather have it used for something, or just be a giant eye sore whether is stays up empty, or is in the process of getting torn down. Which would be the biggest mistake, ever.

well of course that's not the part in question. after the 96 olympics in Atlanta, the new stadium was renamed and used for the baseball team. in some cases instead of building a new stadium, they use and remodify an existing one such as in 1998 nagano, 2002 salt lake city, & 2006 torino. most of the time for the summer olympics they favor a city who builds a new stadium, with a few exceptions such as Rio 2016
But all existing stadiums have been downscaled or converted for future use by removing seats, expanding/diminishing floor size, etc. but not demolished and rebuilt. i agree there is no use for a stadium if you keep it as is for events that are only sparingly throughout the year, but to demolish it and build a new one in its place is a bit excessive. i think there should've been better planning or construction of the stadium in order to make it easier to convert it to future needs.

As I understand it, West Ham FC want it as it is but will need a loan from Newham Borough Council to seal the deal.
It's only Tottenham FC that want to knock it down and build a new, more suitable one on that site, rather than rebuild their present stadium at White Hart Lane.
They already have the money to do either.
Maybe there's more room for parking, better transport links or maybe they're just playing politics.... and, if I were you, I'd treat the whole thing as a load of bollox.

Apparently leyton orient were looking it saying that they were most entitled to it,were its based or what part of london it was in r something can't remember, but could you imagine orient playing in a 60,000 seater stadium you would struggle to see the fans tere'd be that much empty seats in the place, but then again would west ham or spurs fill it? definietly not west ham anyway

Spurs supposedly have a massive waiting list for season tickets, so probably.

i dont think this thing should be torn down and a new one build on top like what spurs want to do what a massive waste that would be. If it is to be a football stadium which is looking likely athelics really doesnt have enough intrest imo it should be modified, the track will have to be removed though or the fan will be too far back
