what i'm going to say in response to this will probably make it a whole lot worse.

i've known him about 7 or 8 years - and i wwas under the impression we were best, if not very very good mates. Didn't think this kind of thing would happen.... Then again my other best mate, who is friends with him too, said from the beginning that i should be very careful and not trust him.

Luckily, i havent invested much in the 'partnership' yet, so i can opt out without losing anything.

there have been worse ways to lose a best friend. My best mates wife, before their wedding asked her best friend to be the maid of honour. the girl pretty much said she didn't want to be a bridesmaid, there is way too much responsibility for her to care about and lit out, never been seen since.
