Hallo to everyone!

I am a total retard, when it comes to psychical things, but since a couple of weeks I have gotten interested into the question, if there exists a connection between psyche and listening to certain kind of music? I am not talking about the short-term connection, like listening to a melancholic song and starting to feel sad right away. It's more like changing your appearance totaly.
To be more concrete: since mid of January I have started to develope some kind of self-satisfaction, which I never had for ages; simply by listening to HHC for a while. You know: getting the ying and yang into balance...
And a lot of problems and troubles I have faced so far, seem to get lost or at least have taken a back seat. And my environment has started to notice as well.

I am not implicitly looking for an answer of a psychologist, but maybe someone else has felt the same or did catch up something regarding this.

i'm sure for most ppl that is the case. i mean look at the emos how sad and depressed they are in relation to the music they listen to

there have been studies about unborn babies being smarter if they're exposed to classical music so i'm sure that music affects adults in similar fashion

Here's a deeper question...what makes us like the music we do? What makes us enjoy listening to repetetive noises, tone-deaf singers, and high pitched noises?

imo, you have answered your own question.

So many people rush around with their heads full of bits of this and bits of that and therefore are in an almost perpetual state of mental disarray.

Repetitive music has always had the ability to restore a sense of balance. ;)

Yeah, I see your point, but can it really be reduced to listening to certain kind of music only?
There was some kind of "New Year"-thread in January, where I confessed about my depression illness. I don't know how familiar you are with this disease, but it erupts in unregulary episodes. I had been facing these kind of breakdowns almost up to every second day until middle of January. You know: sinking into heavy self-doubt up to crying for hours. And since then I only had two similar experiences like that, but way less seriously. It's almost up to the status, where I would believe I am cured. I feel a strong positive aura surrounding me at the moment. I don't care about my appearance at events anymore (80's party, 90's party, the music doesn't f***ing matter). I have received positive reactions by circle of acquaintances and strangers as well. I experience my environment in an unknown way every day. Even the clothes that I wear feel so different on my skin. It's insane!

To return to my first sentence: I have restarted listening to HHC since the end of 2009, but it didn't have any effection to my psyche back then. And you can't say I hadn't liked Trance intensely enough until 2009 not being able to cause compareable results. So I am still unsure, if simply listening to some special kind of music can change your psyche or it needs other things to do so.

I can only speak to myself, but I like the combination of powerful melodies that carry you away and the speed. I mean primitive people have been producing music since thousands of years to get carried away into the state of trance, simply by using repetitive rythmn and certain kinds of melodies or vocals. Look at them, when they dance around their campfire! Simply creating music, which is not for your ears only; it needs to pervade into your bones and yes, even into your soul.

I don't know mate but maybe different emotions respond to different types of music.

It's not impossible that your particular state at the moment needs the energy that Hardcore provides.

Either way it's said that music is good for the Soul, although atheists would disagree but I think they don't know shit.

I love the idea of this being true...

I would call me being an atheist, but there must be something like a soul. Otherwise we would work properly and I wouldn't have needed to open up this thread.

well my brother seems to think that people that listen to rock or heavy metal are complete wankers. But then he seems to think he can see what kind of personality people have his "connection" to shady businesses.

Personally, I've started really getting into Heavy Metal. Not that I know what it tells about me, but other than being a geek, I like alot of music.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I use it for sad indicents as well. Played Korsakoff's "Empty Bottle" a couple of times on the day Nu Foundation died. Really melancholic stuff!

I think you are right in a sense, but its more due to the short term effects it has on the body, which over the longer term benefits you.

your mood is often affected by the levels of seratonin in you. Good mood and happiness = seratonin is produced, and your mood lifts. Lack of seratonin = low moods and more often than not depression.

By listening to music that makes you happy each day, you increase the levels of seratonin in your body and hence you are generally in a better frame of mind.
