This past week ive walked a religion documentary called "regligous" & im currently watching "The U.S vs John Lennon" and i plan on watch "The patriot" next.

im really fascinated by movies & documentaries that question religion or are about historical events/time periods/movements that's not typically taught in school into depth.

if any1 has any suggestions please go ahead n list sum.

thanks

-Lorenzo Acevedo.

This movie is not about either, but it is a good movie for anyone to watch, its about Mexicans and illegal immigration. It is a documentary that any one in the states should see..

"The Other Side of Immigration"

ENDGAME.

It goes into conspiracy theories quite a bit but you have to take it with a grain of salt and pick up the common sense of it. it's very long

300. It's real, man

Don't really know the AMerican education system, so these might be more mainstream.
To Kill a Mockingbird - but that's probably staple for you guys.
Huckleberry Finn - probably same deal, and I don't know of any movie adaptions and they're probably all crap, but a very interesting cross culture study to read nonetheless.
Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket and any other american patriotic rubbish.

Religulous was great, I really enjoyed that one. I watched a bit of the Zeitgeist series, though it's been claimed to have questionable facts, it comes with a source guide and it still contains a lot of interesting material that gets you thinking and ultimately you need to do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

TKM is actually a pretty good movie, and is one of the few movies that do a good job of being as close to the book as possible

also for documentaries, Supersize Me was a good one. It's about a guy who eats McDonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner in 30 days!

I didnt notice the second line.. lol...

Here is another one, its about what the usa does to the "terrorist". It is a few years old, but still is pretty good.

It is called "In Guantanamo", you have to ******* it, as that is how the movie was made. Its free and great!

http://vodo.net/ingitmo

Will see if I can remember other movies I have seen.

Edit: You are in luck Sir, Netflix has all my movies I have watched, I pulled some here they are...
A good size of them are about Iraq/Iran, but they are really good...

Restrepo: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1559549/ (must see)
Super Size Me: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390521/ (another must see)
Guns for Hire: http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/ngs/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=1095080&categoryId=A233
Voices of Iraq: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430745/ (really nice doc with kids doing most of the shots)
Iraq Raw, Turtle Tapes: http://www.amazon.com/Iraq-Raw-Tuttle-Tapes-Ryan/dp/B001DM3QNC (pretty good)
Iraq in Fragments : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0492466/
Jesus Camp: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486358/ (sister said I need to watch this, but have not got around to it...)

Hollywood didn't exist in the early 60's like it does now. I would say the closest movies are The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by me, and Green Mile. I don't think it's a coincidence that these are all Stephen King books. The BBC's Pride and Prejudice is also almost word for word, but it's shithouse so it doesn't count.

I only mention this because Atomsk has mentioned some war based stuff, but I found Lord Of War to be a really, really good film. Interesting look at illegal arms trading, and one of the few times in recent years the Nicholas Cage has taken up a serious movie and shown how good he can be.

I think the film is strong though, because it was written by Andrew Niccol. He only makes a few films, but when he does - they are SICK. He did Gattacca in 1997 which is a contender for most under-rated, under-watched film of all time. It's a fantastic film.
