unpatriotic bastards :P
it's going to happen once, and we get an extra bank holiday - I'm certainly not moaning about an extra day of pay without having to work, Get Over It! :D
the only people who will probably be annoyed by it are the ones who read the tabloids because I epect they (mail, sun, star) dont shut up about it - the bbc have barely put anything on their website homepage since it was announced, and seeing as i dont really bother with any of the other newspapers I've hardly heard anything about it - hense, not bothered! if i read those sort of things i would probably be sick to the teeth of it..
theres a small end of isle section in morrisons with bunting on it and some celebratory stuff, but its like 4 shelves.....all in all not half as much crap as you see about FOOTBALL that the rest of us have to put up with CONSTANTLY! so when a politcial issue like this wedding or AV come around...that annoyance is the same for the rest of us who have to listen about some thickheaded footballer getting sold to some other team we dont give the tinyest shit about week after week! :P
*cough*
morel of the story is dont read crap. otherwise it shouldnt be getting on your nerves
:P
http://www.royal.gov.uk/Home.aspx Charity work is probably what i would consider the most important thing they do

please do explain i'd like to know this as well. all that i'm hearing is that you get a day off of work.
Check out stuff like this - http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/respub/v8n2/cook.html
They bring in a lot of money through tourism, foreigners love the history and all I ever get asked about over here is the Royal Family and Buckingham Palace. Being a Royal I think is a hard life, not one I would choose but at least our Royals attempt to do it with some style. Over here most people hate the Belgium Royal Family, mainly some of the Princes who literally act like Hugh Heffner, and of course use state money to do so and I don't know anyone who comes to Belgium to see the Royal Family, they come here for the copius amounts of strong beers and of course the chocolate! So having seen both sides of a Royal Family, I'm quite content with ours, they really do provide Britain with some great PR abroad, they are really highly thought of.

The only figure I'm familiar with in Belgian royalty is that of King Leopold II. Really nice chap, from what I've read. Responsible for the death of - and this is the upper end of historian's estimates, I'll add - something like 10 million people in The Congo.
If you ever get the chance people, give 'King Leopold's Ghost' a read, by Adam Hochschild. Severely fcuked up stuff that I feel ashamed to have known nothing about before reading the book.

I'm not slagging them off, I just couldn't care one way or the other. As far as I'm concerned they are just rich people living in a big house in London. If they keep out of my way I'll keep out of theirs

It's because the EU still has enough money to waste.
The biggest beneficiary of agricultural subsidiesare are all these royal families in Europe (especially the British one).
Source?
http://www.stwr.org/imf-world-bank-trade/farm-subsidies-the-report-card.html There were more sources available before 2009, when European Court of Justice forbid to publish the names of the beneficiaries.

Except from your pockets, where they get their money from to pay for their big houses and fancy jewelry.

that's pretty much every politician here in the US. our TX governor uses our tax dollars to pay for the mansion that he's renting out, along with personal service expenses, since the official governor's mansion is being repaired for some type of fire damage. what's f**ked up about it is that it's been like that for 2yrs now. stupid conservative idiots here are to blame for giving this man a 3rd term in office
also, every gathering at the white house has a party fund, which is pretty much our tax dollars. same thing with every trip that the president makes. what's funny is how the conservative media blew it out of proportion and said that the trip was costing us 500 million a day.

though what theoneandonly said is largely trivialising what they do and the amount of money that each of us pay that actually goes to them them as in them the person, rather than someone working for them.. as compared to what we each contribute to say...the NHS

I'm not a Royalist, and would hate their 24/7 Big Brother life style, but they were born into it and accept it, some abuse the lifestyle and some try to do a bit of good, but at the end of the day they bring in billions for our country, which atm we need, and anything we have that makes the yanks jealous is a big plus for me!
Me and Nik are taking the kids to Legoland that day, so its either going to be quiet ( we hope cos of the wedding) or mad busy because every other parent is thinking the same as us
