What's that all about?

Scanning through recent releases and there are some that are barely 3.5 minutes long!
All well and good if i'm listening to them unmixed but not so good for much else.

Is it just a case of producers rushing releases out, or maybe they don't have enough ideas to manage a longer track?

And please don't answer with the 'if you're a good enough mixer you don't need long intros/outros' argument cos that's a different issue altogether. The issue is lack of content and me being expected to pay 1.49/1.99 for something that's more an edit than a full track.

Perhaps because so many people mix out so quickly these days people can't be arsed to do a longer track? :P I don't think I've ever dropped below 5 mins personally but I have seen some as short as 2 and a half mins! If it's a good enough track I can forgive it though. :)

given the state of current UK hardcore i'm quite happy for some of these pieces to be just 3mins long ;)

I was going to say, the length of the songs is the least of the problems. They would have to be not awful first. Sorry i just couldn't help myself.

I was going to mention quality too but that's another seperate issue, although i did touch on the lack of ideas...

Interesting, I still prefer the longer versions of tracks, short versions are for radio play and Now That's What I Call Music 3,723,341...

Well that's only true for if they started out longer and are cut short. If they were made to be short then it's different. A 3 minute tune is fine as long as it's 3 mins because there is no intro and outro though, but i doubt that is the case.

Typical example. 0-30 secs intro, 30s-2m interesting build up, 2m-3m squelchy fart noises, 3m-3.30 outro!

....or maybe it's just pandering to a newer clientele with shorter, goldfish-like, attention spans?

I get so bored DJ'ing cos tracks are either 170 or 175bpm, so I just double drop D&B tunes over mid sections of tracks to keep myself amused at gigs. Tracks need to be 4/5 mins if they're UK hardcore, no more.

I'm with you, DMS. I think it's because artists are being lazy with intros/outros, so they just shorten them and just focus on the main part of the track. How many tracks nowdays just have an intro/outro of just the drumbeat, nothing else?

They are lazy with the entire tracks.

that was typical of HHC /Eurodance tunes produced around the 1995-98 era. e.g. C.O.R. - Children of the Revolution, Rave-olution 's "Falling In Love" and SOnic the hedgehog hhc edit.

That's because they were pop songs, so they were meant to be that way.
