Just a topic out of curiosity really, what genre of music seems to have taken hold where you are? It's just in Ireland, Hardstyle seems to be quite popular with many massive dutch artists going to the back arse of nowhere for gigs. Liverpool is all house, cheese and minimal techno with the odd hhc across in birkenhead. This is a very lazy topic but is there a particular style that your town currently has? And does anyone know of a decent club in Liverpool, as its either so underground no-one knows where it is...or it doesn't exist...which I'd be very surprised at...anyway...I'm on a rant now...

In the Rhine-Main-Area (mostly Frankfurt, suburbs and neighbour cities) it's all about the mainstream clubs and events, which are reduced to House, Elektro and Minimal, if you regard the EDM-scene. It was quite strong in the 80s for Acid and for Trance in the 90s, but since than everything has been f**ked up.
There are not as much Hip-Hop/R&B clubs as in other German areas, but they exist. Some Metal and Punk evenings do take place as well and there are monthly Drum'n Bass events in my hometown. The majority of clubs play "normal" music from the charts.
Happy Hardcore only gets played at a couple of 90's party, but mostly just the same handfull of tracks during the evening/night; most of the time it is ignored, although it was successful during the 90s. Plus it gets announced to be a Trash-Party lots of times.
If you like Gabba and Hardstyle the best place to go to is the Ruhr, which strongly is influenced by the Dutch. HHC/UKHC-events usually only occure in Northern Germany.

am in the north west, even in the lakes everything is basically bouncy house.

Fail.

actually to be fair, i've heard a fair amount of everything being blasted out of cars, from Hardcore to Dnb to House...but as far as "scene" most of the nights that are organised tend to be bouncy house.

we have Sash! playing in kendal sometime this month lol.

It's a shame it's not actual Hardstyle though rather than some shocking watered down pop interpretation of it.

When I hit the Hardstyle floor at "Ruhr in Love" it was more like slowed down Gabba. I always disliked Hardstyle, but since a couple of weeks ago, I somehow have found a connection to this genre. Anyway, this kind of "new" Hardstyle pisses me off as well.

I love actual Hardstyle but this stuff is an entire different genre. Offends my ears.

If you mean something remotely connected to EDM then it'd be Dubstep. My god dubstep pisses me off more then really bad 'gangsta' rap, just something about it sends me into a killing frenzy. I don't understand why it's so popular in the states.

Hard dance is biggest in my circle of friends, but get a decent trance night but guess electro/house/techno is biggest for most nights(leeds)

you kinda answered your own question right there.

a lot of ppl who love dubstep are hooked on mainly b/c of the bass. why else do most of them also listen hiphop/rap and/or came from that scene.

I don't mind it but it's not something I go out of my way to listen to. It's also what's popular, as well as electro/tech house. ppl here still jizz over deadmau5 i laugh at my fraternity brothers because of their horrible taste in music and tell them to go back to listening to beyonce and rihanna lol

Hmm pretty much everything here... We got a quite big Drum & Bass scene with all kinds of artists coming from all around the world over here... Hardcore events once or twice a month I'd say (so every second weekend) with pretty cool acts too. There's absolutely no more Mainstream House now, due to some of the famous clubs being renewed now, and it needs some time to all restart again. There's nobody booking any Upfront House artists at the moment, or not much, some months ago it was a different superstar each week, which I found good because House is really good now, it got back to its roots. A lot of Techno and Minimal... Pretty big events here, and music sounds crazy on those enormous sound-systems! Then I don't know what else there is really, some Trance in the rather expensive clubs, some Dubstep, but that's it pretty much. And then all the RnB garbage in the cheap clubs of course Cheap music for... cheap people :P

Edit: Oh and a lot of Jazz clubs etc... crazy how narrow-minded we are, only thinking of stupid electronic music pff :P
