cause IE still works?

only MS haters nagg about IE.

I prefer FF myself, but if it keeps locking like it does now, I wouldnt mind going to other browsers. I know that flash used to have problems with x64 Windows, but its not flash now...

why are we talking browser hating when this is about putting songs on a computer?

You ask that as if no one has ever gone off-topic before, lol. In fact this is on-topic compared to some of the topic drifts that have occured.

i use IE, and then firefox for testing

if your ie tabs are taking longer than instant to open then your PC has issues!

IE has more primitive tabs system that slows down ur computer by a considerable amount whenever u open a new tab, so that "medium performance" computers (like on my computer science class) can drastically slow down ur system only with 5 tabs. Besides that, even on high performance PCs it can lag when you're opening the program, unlike Firefox that only takes time, especially if u have external IE toolbars.
Try comparing 20 different tabs on IE and on Firefox. Surf a bit, take ur time.

This is not about meaningless teenage Microsoft hating (and im resistant to that) but my personal experiences with it. Also, I found other people complaining about it - some of them had the experience and others are just haters. Windows is definitely the best and the most practical OS out there, MS Office an unavoidable program-pack, but almost all other Microsoft software are mediocre.

Just open the CD as folder and copy/paste the files where u wish. After that make sure they arent shortcuts (use Copy/Paste, don't just drag). If you hav no option but to save as a shortcut then theyre analogue and there's something wrong with ur PC since u cannot rip it.

It is impossible for a CD to be analogue. All CD's are completely digital. The only difference is that some are data CD's and some are audio CD's. If it was a data CD then this topic wouldn't exist because he wouldn't be trying to rip audio from it. You almost sound unfamiliar with audio CD's. Although i guess technology has moved on somewhat.

Anyway, just try a different ripper. I use CDex personally, it's free as you can guess. Does the CD Rom read the CD at all? If it does then you should be able to rip it.

I am not unfamiliar with audio CDs, but I think you're unfamiliar with the fact that there's a plenty of people who are. I didn't have anything else on my mind but advise him like a person with usual CD knowledge because ripping "Won't work with anything!". It came to me as the only possible solution, except if the CD is damaged (or made by Traxdata).
And audio doesn't look usually digital to me since they can contain up to 80 min of audio regardless the source bitrate.

Does the disc have copy protection? Its been yearss since i've last purchased a copy protected CD, but i've only had one where i had to physically damage the disc to make it work (made the copy protection track unreadable with a knife, worked after that). It might be that A your ripping program is shitty, have you tried CDEx? ...or it might be your CD-drive is shitty, have you tried in another computer?

Not too familiar with copy protection, but I know WMP offers keeping/rejecting protection for output files after ripping.

EDIT: Whether it's THAT sort of protection or not, I can't tell

oh for crying out loud -.-

* Input CD
* Start "This Computer" or "Computer" or whatever backwater language you have on your computer
* Navigate to your DVD-ROM (I presume you only got 1 harddrive so its either D: or E:)
* Copy files
* Make new folder on your harddrive
* Paste files
* Start cumming

And to open ur CD/DVD ROM as folder I recommend Right-Clicking it and selecting Open. Otherwise it could be opened by your Windows Media Player instead, and you can't copy/paste so easily using it.

i believe that only happens if he clicks "Play in WMP" in the auto-start program. Clicking on the disc-drive should not start any software, unless there is autorun.ini file on it

Some PCs have that as a default option. I understand what you're saying and you're right, but I think he should use that option for just in case.
