Sup women?
So, was having a heated debate today with a buddy of mine about Skrillex and Deadmau5.
Basically what I realized at the end of it, its that, there is always 1 Dj/Artist that in a specific genre, no one likes, but at the sametime everyone loves (for some odd reason).
I've basically (to my knowledge) rounded up a list of Dj/Artist who are like this
Dubstep - Skrillex
House (Maybe?) - Deadmau5
Hardcore - Darren Styles
Pre-teen music - J-Biebs
House (maybe?) again - David Guetta
Get my point?
Why do you think that this seems to happen?

because they've done what we all wish we could do... apply ourselves and make the dream a reality.

Probably because Brisk didn't reach as much as Styles?

Imo the basis comes from personal experience ie: People in Brisbane seem to have a hate for deadmau5 cause of the way he personally conducted himself when on his tour there. He sat and badmouthed Brisbane resident dj's at the after party and then when his fans asked for autographs and photos he said no and his security stepped in and pushed them all away etc.
I only have a certain dj I dont like due to the way he acted on tour here but we wont name names. basically he was just a dick.

Because they make shit music.
And in the case of most of todays pop stars they don't even make it, they are just the public face to make shitness acceptable (I know this doesn't apply to many of the above listed).

easy answer:
the bigger the artist, the bigger the fanbase on either side
the more people hear them, the more people who will like or hate them!
all those artists are arguably the first ones the average day person is going to run into first when hearing genres

Exactly! The more well known you become, the more fans/haters you get.

There we are. It's really that simple. Triquatra's answer is also true.

Who said anything about Micheal Jackson lol?
Also the question should apply to people who actually make music, not to those who just perform it or sing (every pop 'artist' in other words apart from the purely electronic stuff).

I dislike Skrillex because he took dubstep, and put annoying noises all over it :S
Don't see anything wrong with Deadmau5, but I thought he died out years ago :P
Justin Bieber... this ones pretty simple, he made half decent music before becoming popular, after he hit the mainstream he released pop songs singing about love, at which point he was what.. 12?
Darren Styles I like, but I know a lot of people who listen to Hardcore don't like him, not too sure why other than jealousy, but that's my opinion :P
I do agree with Triquatra, but at the same time I think individual artists have their individual shit points that nobody likes, scale this up to a massive fan / hater base and you've got your artist that nobody likes.
For example, can you really say DJ Rankin and DJ Cammy were only hated because they were really popular? No, they were just shit...

Well, according to the DJ Mag stuff thingy there, Headhunterz are bigger than Skrillex. I dont see any hate heading there way.

I have to disagree, for example I know a lot of people who love Carl Cox, but I don't know anyone who hates him! Only once I heard something about him making "pff just mainstream techno" but he has no real "hater-base" I think.
This is probably due to the fact he does not try to give a specific image of himself to the world, he's just who he is. People may dislike his music, but not hate him...

sorry - I'm using "bigger" in the commerical sense of the word
despite being large in their relative scenes both carl cox and headhunters are not commerically big.
carl cox/headhunters not played on daytime commericial radio
with the expection of darren styles all those others are played on daytime radio here in the UK - darren styles is still at the "commercially big" end of the spectrum.

Carl Cox is being played on daytime commercial radio over here ;) Also when Carl Cox gets a booking, he gets his own huge superstage, of which other DJs could only dream of. Last year when he played in Croatia the whole harbor of Split was closed because they turned the harbor in a dancefloor, because of HIM ;) Also he is the second most expensive DJ on earth and the person with the most air miles on the planet! I'm sure he is much more popular than Darren Styles haha :P
