Whistle! What a tune!
Soooo many drug myths in that video but I suppose we know better now than we did back then, one common thing I hear about MDMA (ecstasy) is 'You're not really being happy, it's just the drugs that are doing it.' these people are forgetting that MDMA is just making your brain just deploy serotonin at a faster rate which is a naturally occuring chemical completing a naturally occuring process anyway.
Great footage in the video though, shows how much the vibe has changed over the years and you can attribute that to music & drugs I guess. If only the social stigma on drugs would change we'd probably have a much nicer scene people-wise, I'm so tired of seeing it kick off constantly between drunk people.

if by what a tune you mean terrible tune, then yes =P
Hixxy's Cheesecore was taking its toll by then I guess. The attitudes towards drugs here seem to be the same as they where in 1992 & even in 1989 although by now most raves where 'legal' and the music had changed as you can hear. It was less breakbeat, hoovers, & pianos and more fairgrounds, cartoons and sillyness.
I supose 1997 was the last golden year of rave but you may also enjoy this one from 1992:

personally - I think if the chavs and electro/minimal stuff disapeared we'd have a much nicer scene :P

Sounds different to how i remember the original but that's probably down to the editing. The Adams power mix is by far the best mix of the original.

People react to alcohol differently! It depends on the character and mood, what happens. I almost have never been aggressive, when being drunk and I can say that to a bunch of other persons as well.
I don't know if this can be copied to other drugs, but I have met people on coke, who react differently, too. Most of them turned to *******s (but today I think, they've been ones all the time). Others remained calm and you still were able to talk with them in a normal way.

I agree with ur comment. Being an arsehole is a matter of choice. Coke only makes u hyper giving u a plenty of energy. However, alcohol is different. If u feel like being an arsehole, you're likely to be one. But if you want to be friendly, you're as friendly as hell.

Being 18, I was only 4 when this was shot, I never got to experience those great raves, and I wish I did, I'm also thankful for this vid... I would've LOVED to have been there.
As for the whole drugs concern throughout, I honestly feel that if drug bans were lifted and they were more controlled (in a sense that you must know the potential bad sides of taking drugs) then drugs would be almost perfectly safe and there wouldn't even be a need for a drugs ban. It's risky buying and taking drugs nowadays because they're unprofessionally made and cut with god knows what, you're taking 10% of the drug you want to be taking and 90% worthless shit that could be extremely harmful to you. I couldn't help but think of those pills they were counting and how much I would love to try just one...
As for the chavs nowadays, you can't get rid of them, but I'm pretty sure if they were on drugs they wouldn't be as much arseholes as they are. Even if they are on drugs, they can still be arseholes because they're not on what they should be :P
As for the electro shit we hear, get it gone! Doesn't put you in any sort of a good mood or make you happy, which is what raves are all about tbh! I don't think the point of a rave is to 'stomp', you go to rave, and to reach that happiness you normally can't. Which evidently is what it was all about in the 90's (as I thought).
Build me a time machine, I want to go back, or someone build a fake country that has all things good and no bollocks laws :')

I agree! Shamefully I started binge drinking on a regular basis at age 13 with some other kids who I didn't really know very well at the time, while we got in a lot more trouble than I'd like to admit, we were never violent to other people and fights rarely broke out between us. I moved on from that a long while ago and then stopped drinking when I was 18, I was getting into happy hardcore and was hearing about various drugs that I eventually tried and liked a lot more. I never touched alcohol since then.
But yeah, there are loads of fun sociable drinkers I see while raving, I would never tar everyone with the same brush, but if there's anything at raves that's most likely to make chavs/idiots kick off it's booze. I think we need a new wave of drugs really, I never hear of people taking psychedelics at hardcore raves here in the UK, and I think it'd be nice to see more people doing them. I've had ravers doing line after line of coke, ket and speed while boozing the whole night look at me in terror when I tell them I'm on shrooms.
Amphetamines scare me more than psychedelics, I used to do a lot of speed and if you read some of my old posts you'll find huge paragraphs of babble basically where my fingers were just feeling really energetic and felt like they needed to say loads and loads.
I fully agree with you Karthy, I've been avoiding upfront hardcore nights for a long while trying to avoid the dirty electro stuff but thankfully HU5 has restored my confidence in happier upfront hardcore so I'll be back out there soon.
Also I feel a bit inclined to say this as I started the drug discussion: There are LOADS of online resources out there that are a great way to learn the facts about various drugs without all the government scaremongering that is taught in schools. Loads of info on how to keep yourself safe, the effects of drugs, how to identify drugs and avoid being sold something dodgy. We call this harm prevention and it's a safety driven approach to drug education as opposed to the "drugs are bad mmkay?" attitude which does absolutely nothing for the safety of people taking drugs.
I just thought I'd include the sensible stuff if I'm going to be talking about the merits of drugs just in case really, and they're really informative as well.
PillReports is a great website where you can search pills by location and the people on the website test the MDMA content of the pills using Marquis test kits (which you can buy online) and submitting personal reviews of the pills with a star-based rating system so at a glance you can get a really quick idea of what's safe and what isn't. Even just setting it as a bookmark on your phone's browser could even possibly mean the difference of life and death when you're out at a rave and you're gonna buy pills.
I don't actually do many pills myself (I stick to MDMA) but every time I have I've used this as a guide and it's never failed me, so yeah. Good stuff.

Anybody who thinks drugs are lovely and safe should meet some of the lads i was raving with in the early days.
