I've just got an inspiration for a little satire. Nothing much though.

While incredibly wrong, I still find it so much easier to not argue and just agree when someone calls it techno. It's also much embarassing if I'm to be perfectly honest.
The second one is good though haha

alot of music is obscure. Many tracks takes cues from alot of genres. And Makina was called a techno genre before, but sounded more like happy hardcore

Its easier to puke on them, this is what I do, it works! :D
cant fathom why anyone in england would get it wrong when we have literally millions of CDs that have the word DANCE in massive letters on the front, and a "DANCE" section in HMV and on every single music website that sells MP3s lol

I don't think calling it Dance is much different from calling it Techno. It really makes no difference what they call it anyway, if they call it either of those then it's because they don't really care about it. And if they don't really care about it then it's of no relevance.

in that respect i think you assume too much about people, i've had friends in the past who have really enjoyed talking about music and genres.
if we all just sat around assuming because people didn't talk about things because they are of no relevence we wouldn't have much conversation
I wouldn't want my friends to think I was a techno DJ, I don't like techno, and if they told another of my friends, that could lead to the wrong impression of me - just as I wouldn't want my friends to think I build websites that sell womans clothes

If they really cared they would ask you about it to find out. If they dont know you well enough or aren't interested enough to ask then who cares what they think.

its called a conversation! you have it between two or more people
the care comes when you take time to talk to your friends, my friends don't know everything about me..and likewise myself about them, they'll offer information about themselves and vice versa, shouldn't always need to ask - its friendship!

I have to say what irks me more than "techno" is "EDM". Saying "EDM" is probably less confusing than saying "Techno" as Techno is a genre of music all by itself, but I don't like the term "EDM" either. Not all "EDM" is what we would call "Dance Music" and if you were to say that you could dance to anything, well then midi ringtones on a Nokia 3310 is also "EDM" as they're electronic and danceable.
I like sub-genre names, and even sub-sub genre names, but I think it's silly we have any large umbrella term for electronic music, it's just music at the end of the day that happens to use modern instruments, just like drum kits and guitars and pianos were modern compared to bongos made of animal skins and gongs, and just like whatever instruments come next in the future will be modern compared to software and VSTs.
As for sub-genre names (or just 'genre names' really I suppose) some people dislike them but I think they're good. I understand the valiant attempt to make music a big mixing pot of styles and sounds but at the end of the day some of us have very specific tastes, I'm not really into "hardcore" but I like Happy Hardcore. I like uplifting trance, but I find progressive trance to be a snore-fest. If everything was thrown in together, so much good, less popular music would go unnoticed in favour of whatever the majority deems as 'good'. I dread the day beatport has no genre boundries or when raves simply play "music".
EDIT: I should probably clarify I don't care what a non-electronic music fan calls the genre as it's pretty obvious they're just generalising. I know some people get really mad about that but I think that's silly really.

I think most of the early Gabba tracks (f. e. Marc Arcadipane) were released using the term "Hardcore Techno". I don't see anything wrong in it.
As for the BIG summarisation of all genres, I use "Electronic Music".

People like to call every 'dance' genre techno because it's short for "Technology" . When I think of Techno, it's "techno" - logical music. and as for the terms ' Dance music - this is a stupid term as you can dance to classical music as well through Ballet . House music - Silly term as you can play any music in your 'house'.

Well, I already mentioned earlier, that in my area rarely anyone connects "Techno" to a certain style of electronic music (only for some of the older tracks of the 80s).
Before Techno became the mainly used word to subscribe all different kind of electronic music genres, it was called "House Music", although technically only a few genres came close to be conected to House.
I don't mind calling it "Techno" and like in this case "Hardcore Techno". Like I said, artists/producers called it Hardcore Techno back than, too.
This might be the reason as well, why I refuse to seperate between Freeform Hardcore and Happy Hardcore.
