If being an artist is your job then you are self-employed and you can do whatever you want. But either way you are confusing two different matters. Regardless of the music scene or anything else, it is within Sharkeys right to do what he wants with that which he has created. Nothing else matters. It doesn't matter how many people dislike this fact.

Sharkey did more to nurture up and coming production talent than anyone, and was one of a very short list of DJs mixing huge compilation albums who didn't end up loading each and every one as a reliable paycheck. There's always more to stuff like this than meets the eye, and one day I think a lot of people will (even in emotionally distant internet land) end up feeling really bad about their take on this whole affair and a lot surrounding it.
Patience is a virtue. Sometimes very hard earned, yet then suitably rewarded. We're on it.

Didn't he lose out on a lot of money twice with React and Resist going bust?

I wonder how Sharkey earns his bread nowadays. I keep expecting to walk into a KFC in Portsmouth and see he and Hixxy serving fries at the counter.

I think he said on Facebook that he works with disabled adults as a functional skills teacher.

He went from being homeless to having silver selling albums and now works with disabled adults. How anyone can have anything but total respect for the man is beyond me.

There are plenty of different ways to make a living, a-lot of people treat things like hardcore music as hobbies with a separate career as there main source of income. My perspective is that Sharkey most likely had passion with the scene and lost it, what remains after that is merely profit or nothing. My opinions (just like yours) however are merely subjective and not factual; as I've already said if there are some statistics that show how badly Nu Energy was doing then this discussion could actually progress somewhat.

think you're still missing the point! backmaster said "went from" as in, when sharkey started out back in the 90s...then he sold his music and compilations and made his way up from scratch - it was out of music that he got himself sorted! :)

the bottom line in my poor excuse for an arguement.
Sharkey should do like Thumpa/Smiling Corpses Crew. Make a Limited run, allow people to pre-order. Presuming it's Sharkey, I wouldnt be suprised if he can hit the 400 marker quicker than Thumpa. And for whatever reason the tracks get out on a pirated route, let it flow it's own course. He has set a amount of CDs to sell, the next step is to take legal action or not.
