Does anyone else ever get those times every so often when you just hear hardcore and think "**** me, this is shit"?
Inb4 "yes, ever since '93/'95/'97/'01/'05/'07/'09 (delete as appropriate)". That's too obvious.
Genuinely not on a wind-up. It doesn't happen that often but sometimes I'll listen to a few tunes, even ones I normally like, and just think "how have I not realised this music is so bad before?"
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of hardcore, even the stuff that's been coming out as of late, but every now and again the ridiculousness of the whole thing just hits me in the face and I can't imagine I'm the only one.
Edit: this probably only really applies to casual listeners, otherwise you can use the drugs to explain everything. I think hardcore's probably a bit like LSD, you have to want to enjoy it.

I'll often be listening and think, 'wow, this music genuinely was better years ago'. A lot now just seems so soulless. Thing is if I say anything, I'm labelled as a hater or stuck in the past, and told not to listen if I don't like it (no shit!). Some new stuff though is just so bland though, nothing going on at all. Maybe alright as a filler between the big tracks but not record after record after record of minimal hardcore that never seems to go anywhere. This isn't to say every track should be a major piano-ey, uplifting hands in the air anthem of course.
On the other hand there is a hell of a lot of bloody good stuff coming out too, but it seems like a lot of tracks now are what would have been obscure b-sides or album fillers back in the day.
Just my opinion of course, maybe I am stuck in the past a little bit when it comes to hardcore but I like what I like.

I get very frustrated sometimes when going through new releases on trackitdown with all the electro/dub/wank coming out at the moment and most of the stuff that isn't the standard a-fore mentioned wank is usually weak and soulless. For example i really like Sy and i like Technikore on their own but the farty shit they have been putting out in their collabs is almost as painful as a full selection of Modulate.
However, every so often there is the odd track that gives me hope and blows me away and i regain my faith that there is some good music still being made albeit harder to find. 2012 had been a very painful year.

"every so often' would be nice, unfortunately it's pretty much all of the time and has always been that way
even back in the day.
Hardcore though, when it's good (which is a lot less to do with personal opinion than most people like to think, as I never cease to be amazed at how tone deaf people are
or how easily persuaded their ears can be by the bias of their brains or the image of themselves they wish to convey or their total inability to recognise the absolute lack of originality in a 'new' track,
or their appreciation of the same old chord structure that was already done to death about 10 years earlier and has been so over used since then that even a deaf man would be sick of it, etc etc)
....where was I? Oh yes, Hardcore, when it's good can't be beaten for all the things we love it for.

Haha i love your passive-aggressiveness on this topic. It helps that i always agree.

It's time to go J-Core! :)
The J-core scene is so much fun imo as compared to the current UK Hardcore releases I've seen so far. However, every now and then, the riffin' vocal uk hardcore tracks that appear here and there do catch my attention, the genre's still going down into the gutters afaik.

Petruccio, Modulate, Styles, recent Mark Breeze I absolutely cannot stand it is such trash. I seem to be having a lot of trouble finding the good tracks coming out lately because it's all the same electro house-influenced garbage and it sounds so terrible, bland and boring.

Yeah, I like how Japan is sticking to a unique style and standing steadfast against dubstep and electro influ...
