Just looking back at tracks that I really dig, wondering why they never got pressed.

Was it too niche a genre, or was it all about having tracks to play at events rather then a return on a signing?

Because back in that day trancecore was kinda like Tunnel Records played at 45rpm.

Do you have some examples of tunes that weren't? All the songs i can think of were released but I'm not an expert on that stuff so i wouldn't know about less obvious tunes.

I have a ton of it on vinyl, but it really only came out from about 1996 to 1998 ish... when the "happy" sound was out and hardcore was in flux, just listen to bonkers 7 to get the picture. The german trance sound came in around 98-99 and Hixxy started raver baby around 1999-2000, the exact date is in happyhardcore.com news :)

Let's see..
Loads of UFO stuff. Not even just the Sharkey stuff.

UFO - Inner Sanctum
UFO & Ramos - The Ravechief
UFO & Supreme - A Trip To The Other Side
Druid & UFO - Temporal Rift
Slam - Influence (Slam & Helix Remix)
Rhythm Warriors - Dance Sucker
Vampire - Warped Optimism
Hixxy & UFO - Eternity Has Passed

For me, its around 1996 that I keep hearing tracks that I've not heard before in sets that I simply can't find. I heard a Ramos set the other day from this time, and there were tracks that blew my mind. I'm not entirely ignorant to Hardcore's past releases. I've keenly researched and looked to see what tracks I might enjoy from before my time. I'm aware of labels like Clubscene and EP's released by Bonkers, but there are loads that I find haven't been signed or released.

Check out the first track in this mix ~

Well so much of UFO's stuff in general didn't get released. had nothing to do with the trancecore genre.

Listen to Hixxy's old "legendary" label... it is all trancecore.

What started the raverbaby sound was Deep Inside on New Infinity, after that came out Hixxy signed UFO and Breeze to RaverBaby for the seconds or third release... and kicked off Jelly Baby which was a coloration label between Hixxy and UFO.

Olly half of those tunes got released, check discogs. Temporal Rift was on Bonkers with Terranova on the other side, Influence remix was on a Stage 1000 label, 2 of em were on Quosh (and I wouldn't call them trancecore, they were more hard housey influenced Quosh tunes), the only ones that didn't come out are the UFO ones.

To this day, there are some people who refuse to believe the term 'Trancecore' ever existed but they do think of 'Freeform' as a genre...

*edit* this might come in handy!
http://www.dj-triquatra.com/hhcdotcom/MyBonkersV1.0.zip

whilst I like to immerse my self in that era of freeform I also took some time out to nerd out on all the bonkers tracks qith quick links to the discogs page (and what they were worth at the time I wrote all this down) safe to say the values on all of them have dropped massively lol.

It most certainly existed, I have store record bags from 1996 and 97 proving it. It says on the store bag "happy hardcore, trancecore, drum n bass"
