Honestly I rarely ever get drunk at a rave, at least the ones in the US. When I was in Toronto I got shitfaced both nights, but that's b/c I was drinking with Jon, Gaz and Clive and holy shit they sure do drink lol. I haven't drank that heavy since my college years. The only times I got real shitfaced last year at HTID ITS was during the 2nd boat party and the waterpark party. I took full advantage of the unlimited free drinks haha
Oh and I got pretty buzzed on the first night, but that's because I hadn't slept in like 40hrs and i was vulnerable to anything haha.
Never understood the need to drink so heavily at a rave really. A nice buzz is good enough for me. But maybe it's a culture thing, seeing as how you Brits are are a bunch of drunkards already lol
But it beats being shitfaced than on the floor coming down on whatever stupid shit you took. You see a lot of that in the US over half the crowd is huddled up in a corner or wall half dead.

Yeah I think it's more a culture thing with boozing. The uk has a very boozy culture and Scotland has an even worse reputation, although its the same all over Britain. When I'm on holiday it just makes me want to go mental especially when there is hardcore involved. But sometimes I just forget my limits and overdo it.
Yes I've also been there with the pills, not really done them in a few years now tho minus a small relapse in Spain last year which was actually really good lol. I've been in some states at raves in my younger days, good times tho!

Is there a large difference between males and females at raves? Because I've noticed in Spain as well as countless videos from UK and European events that guys do noticeably outnumber the women. Seems equal in US raves but mainly because there are so many events that allow underagers in that the girls flock over to take the chance to dress up as total skanks and think it's cute.

I don't know what ravers are like over there, and I almost never go to happy hardcore events here because of the reasons listed by others (I feel way too old now, so I'll only go out if it's a headliner I've never had the opportunity to see - like when the HU crew was in TO). But I tend to end up at psytrance and techno events if I have time to go out and those are full of beautiful people, inside and out. And I somewhat trust Jamie's description of people at the UK hardcore events, because good people tend to find each other. (At least, that's always been my experience because I wouldn't waste my time on a superficial jerk!)

Well I've seen the kind of people that are there, and although HTID ITS is probably not the best representation of all aspects of the hardcore scene, I can say that the UK crowd is definitely a much more mature one compared to the North American crowd. I'd say I was with the cream of the crop, the people who are really dedicated to the music. They really and truly were kind to me, and they love and welcome outsiders and travelers from far distances. They're the group of people that you can actually hang with outside the hardcore scene. You can go to a coffee house or hang out at a casual bar with them. I don't believe I've ever connected with a group better than I have with them.
Now I will say that many of them also reminded me of a bunch of college kids. You got your meatheads, your party animals, and your clickish types. But all in all, they were all kind and respectful. I don't have a bad thing to say about any of them, even the messiest ones lol. Only thing I found annoying about my time there was the last night and last hour this bigass meathead was bouncing all around and kept getting in everyone's way lol.
You will have a great time I'm sure of it. BTW if the HU crew make it back to Toronto this fall I hope to see you back again!

They're nice girls, and I'm sure I could engage in mutual intellectual masturbation with one or two of them if I wasn't already in a committed relationship, but they're definitely not going to get by on their looks.
EDIT: It's true that most of the blokes in those disciplines aren't a particularly good looking bunch either. Although that's one of the things I love about CS: it makes a completely average guy like me look great by comparison.

You do realize that I'm a computer science major and work in information security? The stereotypes never end with you guys. I'm also a part of a female programming group that has some of the hottest and most intelligent women I've ever known. Open your eyes, you might not have them at your school, but they are everywhere and shit like this (outside of cheesy happy hardcore forums) only helps discourage girls from even pursuing STEM careers.
(That's the last I'll say about it ... it's pretty comical at this point but I feel the need to stand up for the ones that are attractive and deal with this BS all day.)

tip to some girls out there though .... size 8 does not mean 'fits all' . To many girls out there going about in underwear thats a little bit on the 'small side'. my mother would have killed me if i ever left the house in a bra and undies.
