There were some boys younger than teenage years at the parte on the weekend. They didn't come up to my hip and I guess they were around 10. Is this age too young for a person to rave? Where does one draw the line? Does the industry and fellow ravers have any responsibility for these kids or are they just the sole responsibility of their parents or guardians? I don't think it sets a good image for the industry to have 10 year olds at parte's. It is a story that a magazine current affairs show would love to run. I know if I had kids I would not let them out of the house at night at that age. It has to be in the best interests of the child to keep them away from rave partes. What if something happen to those kids at the parte? I know if I was a parent I been going after the person who let them in.
But where do you draw the line? Do you have a minimum age and what is that age?

Yeah some of these kids were fkn young - kinda disturbing to see 'em walking around with eyes the size of dinnerplates and everything. Like I agree that getting new people into the scene is great, but is it too much to ask that we give 'em a bit of time to get used to life without Huggies before we schlap the pacifiers and bibs back on?
BTW ... manic, you might wanna rephrase this line: "The parte that I went to on the weekend had some pretty young boys who were there." <== I'm kinda scared you're going all Michael Jackson on us

i live in ottawa, canada and all parties have a minimum 16 plus age restriction, some with 19+(drinkikg age) area. we started having a prob with yound\ger kids...12-14 and now all promoters and most people in the scene aggree with this rule. It has almost become unspoken...i guess you can say it worked!!
peace n luv,

There are laws. We did a party in Blackpool at The Palace a few years back for under 18s, and theres a law that says under 16s aren't allowed in a club after something like 11 or 12 (sorry can't remember which), so we had to have a 16+ limit on the door..... and no, its nothing to do with alcohol, as we had a dry bar on one floor for the under 18s.

Yes, the scene has to set a standard, its in its own best interests. There are rules for licenced premises, which seemed more laxed in the UK than in NSW, but, what about for unlicenced premises ( basketball courts, wharehouses, parks)? The rules for unlicenced premises are not as stringent. One issue here is how would you police the 16+ age limit, when, in NSW photo ID is only for 18+? Is 16 too old? What age are you at to make an informed decision? This differs from person to person. 10 ( and it is rare) is too young, whether the guardian or parent is there or not. 16 maybe too old. Is the middle a ground we should be holding? One begins to explore in their teenage years, and a rave envrionment provides for that exploration, although it is skewed, with limited information about effects. This leaves the explorer with a less informed decsion. Maybe if a 13 year old was accompained with a cousin or friend whom is older and can watch out for them.
Hope I have rephased my opening sentence to everyone's satisfaction. As Far as Wacko Jacko is concerened, I'm not planning to get any plastic surgery. As far as the pacifiers strychnine, blame the promoters for not letting in chewing gum and the like! But the people I saw with pacifiers were old enough to make an informed decision on that.

yeah i remember asking those kids how old they were and they both declared they were 16... which i highly doubted. i would have put them at 14 MAX.... these guys were tiny. one said it was his first ever rave (and pill) and the other prouldy told me it was his fifth (holding up five fingers as he told me hehe). i pointed it out to some of the people in our vicinity, many of whom were shocked, some were mildly amused. i'm usually all for people doing what they want at whatever age they want but i personally found it sad that these guys were taking drugs, and in many ways being glorified for it by all the attention.
i thought we did have some sort of 16+ rule here, it's just never enforced???
they wouldn't have come up to manic's hip either now i think about it!!!
drugs is not the answer... drugs? is the question... yes is the answer

I say 18+.
As many studies as I've read that show E being completely benign, I'm really against people messing with their brain chemistry when their brains aren't fully developed. And if 16 yr olds go to parties then some of them will take pills so I think it should be 18+. Just IMO though :D

alot of raves are over 18s only but the bouncers dont realy care apart forn the sanctuary, when i was 16 i traveeld from brighton to milton keyens to helter skelter nightlife i paid for the ticket, i paid for the train and cos a so called mate pissed off when a space got was free in one of my mates cars i went alone, onlt to get up there and the bouncer said did i have any id i said no then he said ur not coming in then so a 3 hour journey was wasted, and to rub salt in the womb even further i had to see all the ravers that came to the train station at 6 cos there were no trains left to go till then, but i think even though the age is 18 id say 16 to start raving.
get with my lyrics il make u sweat

Ill tell you a few things:
Raving is for anyone. And I see no problem with either kids or older ppl attending a rave. Ive seen 13 yos and 50 yos happily dancing to the worlds happiest of parties known as raves :) You guys dont forget raving goes by the hand with liberty and happiness, and there is some 20 something yos like me who dont even drink coffee (what to say about drugs!) if thats your first objection about raving.
If those 10yo kids were on their own, id say it could be kinda silly, i know i wouldnt let my son go raving alone (or with a bunch of friends his same age) id definitely assigned a responsible, trustworthy, mature older person to watch out for them and never leave them unattended/alone. (unless they are the dj´s son or little brother or the organizer/promoter son. But that way even 8 yos can happily know what a rave is :D (i know ive seen em a few times)

arent most places in UK over 18s? but i think thats a good age, bcos most ppl who r 16 go neways n just dont get id, its not like everyone u c is over the age limit, so change it to 16 and your just going 2 get even younger ppl going, and i agree of course that ppl can listen 2 hardcore at any age obv! but its quite scary wen children r goin 2 get mashed at raves and stuff

i think it should be 16 and up. go any lower and most of the time they can't provide id. umm as far as the young ones walkin around with huge eyes, i don't really think they know what they're doin to themselves. i'm all about havin a great time but if you need drugs to do that you don't belong at a rave anyway!!! everyone knows...ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC AND THE PEOPLE...not gettin ****ed up!!!
