strychnine: Yes you are correct, but tapes quaility is far less, they degrade and are difficult to copy (not as easy to copy as CD's)... so it's a big gray area...

Nearly every artist and label are against tape packs because they are unlicenced.

Tape packs used to be way cool a while back, and I agree they are more rave like if you wish. Problem is... the quality is bad. I have the Slamming Vinyl tape pack from this past nye... and the people that recorded that thing must have been completly mashed! Even I could have done a better job. There's quite a bit of saturation and part of one of the tapes was recorded backwards!
I'm using soundforge to record em all into wav or mp3 files so that I can upgrade the sound quality a bit. But yeah, point being... tape quality is often not very good.

I wonder how much money event promoters actually make off of tape packs.

cds would probably be more expensive as well because you'd have to pay someone to go through and seperate out each track

^^ it takes about 10-15 minutes to cut an average CD, and you only have to do it once per CD before you have a master that you can make copies of, so spread out over the gawd-only-knows-how-many packs they sell then it shouldn't cost too much more ... especially when you consider how cheap CD's are nowadays.

my car is lowered, like two inches and the suspension is so stiff that cd's skip really bad, so tapes are cool in that aspect. but they do wear out, and you'd better like the track selection cuz it's a pain in the ass to fast forward or rewind while driving.
