I've heard a few of his tracks recently and all I could think of was "where have I heard this before?"
Ecstasy Feeling immediately made me think of umm.. I wanna say Sheltered but I think Sheltered just sounds similar as well and isn't actually what I'm thinking of in my head. Summer Anthem is some Scott Brown tune, if I remember right, but again I can't recall the name. I'm doing really badly here with remembering the names of these older tunes but Fantasy World sounds identical to another mid 2000s hardcore track I think (I find myself wanting to sing a vocal line as soon as it drops so I think it had vocals!)
Anyway, I don't have anything explicitly against the guy per se and I know that ripping off melodies is one of the cornerstones of hardcore but I just wondered if he's done any tracks that don't sound very similar to existing hardcore tracks?

Why would you go out of your way to discredit someone? The kid is a very talented producer and has done a whole album of his own tracks. I remixed one last year. I think if you're going to go out of your way to make a thread like this, you should do it properly and name the tracks you think he's ripping off.
He's far more deserving of an appreciation thread.

i must admit that i've found a number of his tunes that i really like although i haven't heard a lot from him. He strikes me as a future star to be honest because even as a relatively new producer (i think) the production quality of his work seems very high and the music sounds crisp and clean. I also really like his basslines as they tend to be quite heavy without too much of that dubby shit in there. Btw i have no idea where you get Esctacy feeling sounding anything similar to sheltered (if we are talking about the Al storm one).

Olly is a wicked producer, deffos rate him! He released a couple of tracks on Trackmaster a few weeks ago and they were both really good... nice to see another new producer keeping their sounds uplifting and ravey
I think if you go through any producer's back catalogue you're bound to come across a few tracks that take their inspiration from others, that's just how it works, but I think as long as you go about things your own way and have plenty of ideas of your own it's all good

That's what I thought it was going to be. Some of his tracks are phenomenal. Especially considering the short amount of time that he's been producing.

I just had a quick search, having not heard of this guy before, and on the soundcloud page for Summer Anthem he admits to using the melody from Make The Beat Drop. I don't see what is so wrong with it.
Checked out Ecstasy Feeling, nice track.

I take it that it's the same Olly P who's recently signed to Klubbed Ups feeder label? If so he' a quality producer. I shared his Facebook page a while ago and he was really nice and thankful about it. Seems really down to earth and a nice guy as well as a really good maker of hardcore slammer tunage. He features quite alot on the latest Klubbed Up podcast :-)

It's like you guys have a list of producers that just cannot be criticised under any circumstances and everyone else is fair game for utter demolition -- no matter how non-constructive.
Elipton, you're the worst. Are you trying to promote a world of banality where criticism doesn't exist?
Anyway, like I said, I don't have anything specific against Olly. He's a fine producer and I like The New Day. But I was just expressing an opinion. Clearly you guys all like him a lot more than me. Fair enough, duly noted.

I agree. I don't see the problem with you having an opinion.

I only recognised the make the beat drop melody when you pointed that out and while i don't like that sort of thing it's a good tune in any case. Ecstasy feeling is a cracking track to be honest and while there are familiar elements to it, i reiterate it sounds nothing like Sheltered at all and doesn't detract from the fact he's a good producer who hasn't been around all that long.

- Clearly we do like him more than you as we chose not to start a thread to slander the guy.
- None of us said he couldn't be criticised but what i will say is that bigger names who have been around a lot longer are naturally more deserving of criticism when they act like knobs or folk who start making fast dubstep and slag off anyone who points this out. Others are just held to higher standards from their work over the years or they just take a sudden unexplained turn from potential greatness to utter drivel. There may be some who use this site who may be non constructive in their rantings but these people are few and far between and more importantly have not posted on this thread!
- I don't think Elipton suggesting you should get your facts straight before slandering someone really constitutes trying to promote a world of banality where criticism doesn't exist even the uk labour government haven't succeeded in this despite their best attempts.

No particular issue with your original post, each to their own and all that.
But I'd love you to elaborate on that statement!

i don't...at least i do't think i do lol
nothing wrong with his tunes if he takes inspiration from someone elses tunes then good for him and the original producer should really take it as a compliment

How childish. "You all disagree with me so you must like him more.."
But yes that's probably about right - and his music is better too. I don't see the point in this thread because he does make his own original stuff, he draws inspiration from other music as much as the next guy, and he's a very enthusiastic talent. He's something like 15, and his tracks are very well produced and he's getting onto good labels and working with far more experienced names.
You call me the worst, but I don't target specific people who will probably see this and be put off of music. What up-coming young producer would want to see a thread like this? If I had seen this as an enthusiastic teenage producer, it would have been a crushing hammer blow, and a major knock to my confidence in my own music. Its a different case with top tier artists. They don't look on here anyway, and if they did, they wouldn't give the blindest bit of notice. They play events and release what they want because they're already at the top of the scene.
I don't know why you'd target Olly particularly for this kind of thing. Perhaps you're envious that someone younger is producing such good music? It's really quite bizarre if you ask me.
