Yeah, but back to that day they used trackers for make music. Now I dunno if most of the people here knows how to use a tracker, altrough samples can be used also on modern DAWs (using Kontakt or Fruity Sampler)
Things were the same as they are were today. They weren't long ago. Around 2005 or so. No one was using trackers then.
I also like the idea of a comp where you can only use the samples provided as it evens the playing ground and the only thing you can win on is creativity.
