Heyaz Y'allz,
So im helping throw a large party for a bunch of film/movie people/artists/ and friends. Im throwing down a long set/taking care of most of the music for the night. What I want to do is start off with some regular trance stuff/hard dance stuff and then as the night goes on kick into high gear with some HHC/Freeform. Most of everyone at the party most likely has never heard of HHC or Freeform so id like to introduce them to it rather nicely. Anyone have any suggestions for must play tunes for them? I have a bunch of stuff but I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas for what I should pick up to introduce these people to HHC. Also the theme of the party is "Voodoo" and or "Mardis Gras" so Id take suggestions along those themes. Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to transition between the two (20+ bpm change.. ack :) ) I might like those as well. What I might do just just program some beats or a tune in a MC-909 and then switch to that because I can pitch up the bpm to whatever I want with out effecting the pitch. Either way I only have a month to prepare... ahhh! :)
Thanks!
-DJ I havent picked my name yet but Im decent at spinning.

well if your audience appreciates Trance and Hard dance, then you shouldn't have a problem with happy core. That's a good thing. Over here, you would have an extremely difficult time introducing it...

BE carefully, hhc is a very rare genre of music, considering that the only time majority of ppl hear ne type of dance music is at clubs and partys, start wit the trance and hard house, gradually bring in some hhc tunes that are still pretty trancy, while doin that bring the bpm's up as u go, do go too fast too soon. chuck in a abit of new age scooter b4 the hhc, so that every1 can relate to the music, while warming up the "happy vocal" at the same time. then bust in the trancy happy tunes and make it cheezier and cheezier as the nite unfolds..the freefrom can be weaved in and out of the set, no one should be critical if u mix hhc and freefom together on the nite, they wont have a clue..
goodluck
"what goes up must come down"...so keep popin!

Maybe try playing tracks that you think they may have heard a different version of before ie: they may have heard N-Trance - Set You Free, but u should play Brisk and Storm - Set Free, at least that way they may be able to relate to it.
There are plenty of tracks like that out there

Double Dutch - Here Comes The Noise
Fade & Brisk - Stay Here Forever
^^^^^^ they'd certainly help people make the transition. As far as the tempo transition goes, a good trick is to cut power to the deck currently playing, then start the next tune at the break down (or the start if you want, I just prefer the breakdown). Failing that, just shift the tempo up ever so slightly with each tune.

^^^ yeh but that track i mentioned is done quite well IMO. I wouldnt go so far as to say its my number 1, hell, its far from that.
But then again i can see sum merit in ur point. Like if u played that track and sumonce came up 2 u and said "ohh, that track is pretty good, whos it by?"
and u said F&F, then they might get the impression that F&F are a real talent

well, for the transition, slowly make hte trance faster and faster, and put the hardcore record (a slow tune in the first place) at the slowest pitch allowed, and start mixing it like that... it may be necessary to manually keep the pitch on the hardcore record slow enough (its not as hard as it seems, trust me). then once you throw it over into a breakdown, just bump the pitch up back to regular speed. voila!
Oh man, I hope I didn't brain my damage...
