Given that most of the tracks you named were what I'd call cheese trance, for hardcore purposes I suggest you go with stuff off the Raver Baby / Jelly Baby labels (by Breeze & Styles, Hixxy, UFO, etc) or maybe even off Evolution and E-Plus (just be careful you don't accidentally stumble upon some gabber while you're there).

So what did you use to do? :)

You really don't wanna know - all I'm gonna say is that it involved a fridge, a microwave oven, and a really big stick.

...cheese trance? Really? Hmm...a couple of those are off the CD Xperience Happy Hardcore. That's fishy. Which, if any, of the ones I mentioned were truly it (or which is closest to...)?

Oh...and I think I've heard a bit of gabber. Is that the >200bpm stuff with lots of screaming that sounds like I took a possibly good song and then fastforwarded it and ran it through my guitar distortion pedal?

Sorry ... I saw "Barthezz" and "On The Move" and I immediately dismissed the whole selection without really reading it

Anywayz, it's a pretty fair bet that anything you hear on HappyHardcore radio is the real deal. As for your list, the Vinylgroover remix of "Rush Hour" is definitely HHC in every sense. "Turn Around" by Scott Brown is also HHC, but "On The Move" definitely isn't (unless it was spun at +15 or something) ==> try and have a listen to "Movin' On" by Double Dutch for the hardcore equivalent. I haven't heard the others (although someone just told me that Genesis is trancey HHC).

A good marking point for hardcore as opposed to other 4/4 genres is the fact that hardcore plays much faster than most of them (in the order of 170+ BPM compared to 140-160) although that is by no means definitive.

For a good cross-section of the genre, try the Bonkers or Happy2BHardcore series of CD's.

As for gabber, that's a whole "base" genre in and of itself, with a whole shitload of subgenres ranging from 140bpm distorted stuff to 220+bpm devil-worshipping tracks. Perfect for a pagan ritual or chillout room or something.

Welcome Jimmyjilikers,

I think a stringer can be classed as one of those types of forum posters that i think Brain K posted about six months ago
