I'm thinking that you might be out of luck. the hardcore scene in 2003 is so desperate to disassociate itself with the cheesier tracks from yesteryear that it's in danger of losing what has kept it going all along.

That is "hard" and "happy" in varying measures.

Production standards and variety are at an all time high ( at least in recent terms ) but something is missing, and I'm not convinced that the "key" players in the scene have noticed and/or care.

2003 is make or break, despite myself I remain optimistic.......

No producers make "Happy" Hardcore anymore cause it does not sell... You have to give the market what it wants and not just keep making tunes that don't sell.

I like the way hardcore is progressing, it is allowing for a wider audience but that is just my thoughts on the matter, if you really like "Happy" hardcore I recommend you start producing it :)

No offense, but I think that's a horrible philosophy. The way I see it, all hardcore styles evolved as tangents off of what was "commercially acceptable." Nothing original or groundbreaking can come from catering to a target audience... the best music is music that people are drawn to... music that is uncompromising. Granted, it's practically impossible for any style to be truly "underground" in this day and age, but that doesn't mean that they have to sell out. I think we need more producers who do it strictly for the love of it and don't give a flying **** about making a living off it. I mean seriously, why does everyone who starts producing have this image in their head of becoming famous and supporting themselves with a music that is supposedly not mainstream and commercial?

To be honest, I am REALLY enjoying the Raver Baby sound right now. Out of all artists now, I'm loving Breeze, Styles, Hixxy, Dowster, Uprise, Dougal, Gammer, and UFO.

I used to really like Scott Brown's style, but it drastically changed over the past year. I loved his tunes like, Enlightened, Roll the Track, Lift, etc. Now his style is alot harder now.

Alot of people really hate how hardcore is evolving. I say, stick with what you like, don't insult others for what they like, or produce yourself.

Ï like the new style a lot and i think its still happy hardcore. Have a listen in holland and you will know what hardcore is. And i dont like the harder style. I allso think its a shame that scott brown has gone to a far harder style coz i really used to loove all the evo stuff.

"No producers make "Happy" Hardcore anymore cause it does not sell..."

Indeed, "Your Shining" must have been the worst selling tune in recent times, heh.

The term I hear a lot is Freeform, and you're right, it is nothing like "nu style gabber" <---which is slow, repetitive rubbish.
