Some producers have a more happier sound though compared to other's...I always recommend DJ Stompy for this as an example.

Newer style hardcore is trancier, less happy and in some cases slower...
there are lots of sub-genres of hardcore such as freeform which is generally
a bit darker and has less vocals.
That help?

like sum sed hardcore has differant types, persnanly i love the new stuf, scott brown-badboy, rock ya softly, turn up the music, and yea it is a lot differant from the old skool that got hardcore off its feet, but there wil always b that 'hint' sum where in side every tune that remindes us of wen it all 1st began

for me I don't like the way hardcore has evolved. but that's just me, I muvh prefur the 1996 sound...the proper happy... I find i funny that people say they wondered if hardcore would go mainstream....duhh!!!! it already is! you can find all the bonkers cds in HMV and technically that is a mainstream market! so use your brains! there's no such thing as underground unless you can't find it in HMV! I concider all the thunderdome CDs underground in UK (you'd never find it) however it's comercial in Holland, so you'd probably find loads of thunderdome cds in HMV with no problem along with other dutch CDs like Hakkuh+flippuh and Happy Rave series.
I think UK garage is crap IMO
