Okay, I can see how many people would call the topic question stupid. But it's driving me insane - every time I buy a SB mix, more than half the songs are made by SB himself. Which makes his mixes very samey. I've never seen another DJ, Hardcore or not, use so many of his / her own tunes. How far can he push self-promotion?

Exactly!

If I made tunes like that i'd want to show them off every chance i got.
Also, there's no-one more prolific in making tunes than SB at the mo so he's often got a lot of exclusive tunes that nobody else will have.

Plenty of other DJ's also play mainly their own tunes/label so it's not exclusive to Scott really.

Buckle up, cos it's gon' get bumpy!!!!!

Oh, and i think Scott Brown's sets are fine as they are!!!

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you

Its up to him if he wants to just play his own tracks. If people like it he ent doing a lot wrong is he.

I agree though that it would be good to see a tad more variety in his sets. There always good to hear for the new evo tracks but they lack a bit of flow IMO.

Allso ive heard a bunch of Breeze and Styles sets playing purely the raver baby material which i think is allso a bit of self promotion

I would say since the year 2000 onwards, Hixxy has been the one that will play a whole set of only his tunes.

I don't think it would be so bad, but EVERY new track he makes sounds the same as the one before. It seems like SB is in cookie cutter mode, which is a shame because in the past he has put out some of my favorite tunes.

I think he has the right to as he is an amazing producer, yeah he does produce a lot of the same style but thats kinda what its about init. I always enjoy SB sets more than any others because of the styles he uses. And yeah I'd say that Hixxy tends to be a lot more self promotional than SB. "Cookie Cutter Mode" lol thats clever ;-) i like that!!

One more note... if I finally ever got to see Scott Brown play(which will never happen unless I drive out of state), I would want to see him play HIS trade marked style, which consists of HIS songs. It's like going to see a band. They're going to use all their own material if they possibly can, becauseit directly reflects their unique style.

as for the cookie cutter thing...
*a song in the style of Scott Brown*
step 1: loop hip hop sample for first 128 beats
step 2: breakdown with some girl singing with acoustic guitar or piano accompaniment... go to build up
step 3:same exact thing as step 2, but with a kick drum and rampant trance anthem feel
step 4: the second break down... acid sounds looping hip hop sample, but more gabber style beats
step 4: see step 2
step 5: see step 3
step 6:see step 1

yay!!! I made a Scott Brown song!!!

*please note that I'm just being an ass, and have massive amounts of respect for SB, not to mention the music that he produces.

No sir, that's paper.

Well,Scott Brown is making some of the most upfront hardcore tunes of the moment. He has massive respect as a dj and producer, why shouldn't he play his own tunes?
