It's hard to explain in English but first you must do some basic thing. Just listen to some mixes (or seperate songs) and try to understand the music. Like the beat, you can group them in 4, 8, 16 and 32 steps. Then the best thing is to know a friend who is dj, and just try to mix, then you know how it goes. For equipment you need at least 2 turntabels, mixer, headphones and ofcoz 2 needles and slipmatts for your turntables. Ohw and vinyl :) It's quite expensive, but maybe silver will lend you some money. =)
Good luck

2 x SL1200's as you will have to buy them one day (they are DJing standard). Second hand SL1200's is okay too they never break, mixer, headphones, and needles.... and of course records.

The way i got started was to buy a set of CD mixers. DONT. It was a bad move. Basically u need to arm yourself with a good set of DIRECT drive decks. DO not, no matter how cheap they seem by belt drives, they will just make u frustrated.
As silver says SL1210's are the best (although i personally rate vestax pdx2000's) they can be expensive. Buy a magazine or 2 and read the articles, visit various web site about DJing and how to do it.
As for a mixer almost any will do. Most important have fun, trust me beatmixing/matching is the most infuriating thing when u cant do it, but one day it will all slip into place. Once u are confident of your ability send demo tapes to every promoter u can.
If i can help u in ANY way just send me an email and i'll see what i can do. [email protected]

Might be as good but remember they don't hold the re-sell value of the SL1200's series
Not that you would ever want to sell your SL1200's :)

I'm a bedroom DJ at the well known 'Bedroom' in Parkstone, Poole Dorset. My skills are loved by the crowd who can't wait to turn up! My advice is be yourself and never let anyone put you down! NEVER!
No1 puts me down coz only a **** does that IMO

I suggest looking into all of the options as a DJ.
Are you looking to just play music in a club?
Doing it as a hobby?
Career?
There are a lot of ways to be a DJ. Vinyl, CDs, Mp3.
First find out which you are most interested in. Don't just buy a pair of 1200s because it looks like everyone uses vinyl. CDs are gaining in popularity and with software like Ableton Live 5 CDs are even getting the nudge over. Of course things like Ableton are more geared toward the producer who wants an easy way to play his/her songs at parties without having to constantly burn CDs or have dubs pressed.
This all goes back into figuring out why you would like to DJ.
