I've just finished my first happy hardcore track, I'm interested to know what you think. The intro/outro needs some work I know.

I assume posting my own mp3 is ok.

Thanks Sparrow, I used a Virus-b for the lead sounds, a JP8000 for the strings, a rave-o-lution 309 for the drums and cubase.

I've done a few trance tracks before but it's been a year since I produced anything. I've been getting back into happy hardcore the last few months.

The track is produced well, but frankly, I find it kind of generic sounding.. but then again I'm not the biggest fan of instrumentals..

I've started reviewing these amateur (take no offense) tracks as a hobby so let's get down to the skinny of it shall we?

Strong at the getgo, though there should probably be a little more time to build up the parts. If you were mixing this one in to a track with a short outro, you'd have some tune clashing for sure. There's also a bit of a mastering issue here, as the bassline synth is just a tad too loud and takes up too much of the spectrum (thusly causing a bunch of clipping in the hi's it sounds.) Clipping is a real major issue here! Control those frequencies because it's killing the song, making it a muddle in the midranges. Also, you might want to work on variating the kick a tad as mostly it seems to just be a thud-thud-thud sorta deal. The synths, however, are class, though a tad cliche. The stab is quality... but once again slightly generic. The build at around 1:15 needs something more to it... the kick winds up for something major and the pause, however good an idea it is, needs to be better executed... there should be some sort of reverb or echo from the kick/hats... You also need a break with a different sound to it..

Overall a quality track but the mastering job kills it, everything is too loud! Work on that and you've definitely got a killer tune

I just assumed that he'd recorded/mixed it down too loud :)

Well, yeah, that's what clipping is ;)

Thanks for all the comments.

I have uploaded a new version
http://www.adrian.lark.btinternet.co.uk/Demo.mp3
I made it before I saw Kaffine's comments, thanks for those, I will bear them in mind when I work on it again tomorrow.

You were right the old mix was recorded too loud, the new version is fine. I also changed the arrangement a bit, check out the new breakdown and build 2:20-3:00 :)

Kaffine were you saying there was clipping going on aside from the levels being too high, I suppose its difficult to tell the cause.

Now this tune I really like!!!!

This new version is def better than the original one you posted up!! Theres a couple of points where I am not keen on the drums (leading up to the breakdown).

I love the lead line, and the sounds are spot on, it sounds quite polished!!, except for the drums I mentioned earlier.

Also, only other criticism is the intro and outro.... quite tricky to mix into other tracks with the bass coming straight in at the start, and staying all the way to the end.... just a personal preference of mine I guess, I did also think it ended quite abruptly.

Overall though, it is one TOP tune, I love it, so keep it up, and I'm already looking forward to hearing more from you!

You got a name for it?
