hi all,
i'lld just like too add my own perferences on the adepts of mixing tracks into one another...
everybody wants a track where it starts off minimally and builds with percussion and finally ends with the main beat coming in
of course it has nothing too do with matching the mix itself but the best sound comes from when the track that comes in is building itself up and of course that rings the bells and whistles for all the cut ups too be mastered etc...
i just dont like the tracks that start off with the beat at first like the more stomping variety which i have only a limited number of those(very limted,i think just one!),
or/and the tracks that alternate at the beginning between the main beat and a drum loop or/and vocal slices...
please give utterances on what are your favourites styles of tracks that are your favourite too mix in...pre

Well it if dont start with a beat it's an intro mix (you play it as your first tune).

if its an intro beginning, and you have more than one of them in your set, then you have to stop the set,or of course mix in after the intro, but i find the tunes with the intro's add a lot of atmosphere from the very beginning,so i would cut short a tune thats playing too introduce the whole of the next record with its complete introduction, but i have preferences of how a tune kicks in i guess...pre

If you want to play an intro mix track in the middle of your set just find where the beat starts and start to mix from that point insteed of the start of the track.

I know a good track thats a good example, heart of gold (orig) It have a melody like almost 40 seconds into the track, some people would not want to start with heart of gold, so they move it to the first beat where it kicks in and mix from there.

LOL!!!
I was just thinking the same thing, mate! Mix those melodies over the final break of the track before it. You'd be surprised what you can come up with.

best thing to do .. scratch with the start sample of heart of gold, then bring it in
ive heard it before ...
also with other intro tracks, find a latter part of the tune (perhaps the end beat) to beatmatch together .. then just scratch it in!
depending on the intro of course!

You can always use Silver's idea to match the tempo, and then once you've matched it bring it in from the start of the track over the end break.
It sounds pretty good bringing in an "intro" track over the end break (at least when done properly). I sometimes do this with Pacific Sun

lol, you all totally missed my point but nonetheless...
its was that if you have more than one 'intro track' that your going too play in a set, its not always the choice too mix it from the beat if it adds overall atmosphere, the choice is of either but them are some tracks that have too be started alone but wether you wanna keep the set going, like cut and pasting the intro track in without the intro, and also 'vice versa', what about the tracks with a short beat interlude like 'lost boy',i never like short snappy mixes myself...pre
