Hello?????????????/ Guys guys, not giving myself a rap but after playing the guitar for bout 8 years now, i can tell you tnat...

SO MANY TUNES HAVE GUITAR IN THEM OR a similar syth sound which originated from the guitar.

Most of the stuff is high and soft, so as to bring out the trance in the songs.

Of the top of my head i think a good example would be "light of Passion" by Spencer meets dougal and gammer.

the guitar used in the quiet break down is a classical guitar.

What do ya reckon?????????????

Yep, guitars have been used quite a bit in hardcore tunes. More often that not they've been sampled, but there are some that make good use of live instruments too. Someone's already mentioned The Awakening (bloke called Eren Kendler played guitar for that track for any trainspotters amongst us ;) ). And wouldn't you know it, my mind's now gone blank, the only other live one I can think of right now is in a track that I wrote a few months ago with Canada's finest, S4 and Tyrant (plug plug ;) ). Marc Smith's "On Two Turntables samples an electric guitar riff too.

Personally I love the sound an electric guitar makes and it can enhance a track so much if you use it right, whether it's to make a breakdown more epic or to add a similar kind of energy to a tune that and acidline brings.

Someone mentioned saxophones - they've probably been even more popular in hardcore over the years, particularly with Bunter's GBT outfit when that was still going. E.g. Future Collective - Look for The Truth, Tailbone - In My Mind (Helix Rmx) and several others. Then there's that famous sax sample used in F&S's Apollo 13 pt.2 as well.

Hey, aslong as they don't f*ck up the track they can use whatever they want.

About half of the whole speedcore genre uses dirty guitars, partly because it works really well with the mentalness and energy of speedcore - similarities with death metal etc. Hell, Lofty used to play a bit of metal in his sets. Didnt help his already dodgy mixing haha

But they have been used to good effect in some normal gabba tunes like Evil Maniax - Psychopath, Kool Killers - Amerikaaaah and so on.

If you replace the bass 'n kick in speedcore with regular drums, you get f*cking good death metal.

like Lixx said, Sharkey - "The Awakening" is the main tune that comes to mind. It has a full on electric guitar solo in it and it works very well. Its one of my favorite hardcore tunes ever. The record even credits the guitarist, Aaron Kendler or something like that haha
