I come from a sleepy town called huddersfield in yorkshire, anyboby els unfortunate enough to live here will understand what i mean when i say we dont have a music seen (with the exception of popy shite and some d&B). Me and some mates have been talkin endlessly about starting our own hardcore night somewhere, although the only thing any club will give us is two vertical fingers!

So we have decided to try and start something in a hall with permission from the owners. Nothing wrong there. Only thing is we gota pay for the hall!! and with only very small funds avalable were gona have to get some cash from the people attending, as you know we then would have to have a lisence!

OR, i have been told, Advertise it as a raffel with prises etc. and have the music as an accumpniment, that way we would be charging for the raffel not the music.

Has any of you done this sort of thing before? could anybody offer any advice because we realy dont wana step on anybodys toes or get any shit for it.

Also to anybody who sez we would be rippin off the system, BOLLOX to ya, i think we would be doin more of a favour by openin peoples eyes to the new style of hardcore. And no shit, that truely is our main aim.

Cheers.

PS If we do manage to get the thing goin and ur interested in attending let us know, hopefully we can get something goin by the new year.

oh s*it man, what was i saying?

Sounds interesting Mouse!

mrc: It doesn't matter if you are charging for the music or not.... any public performance of music requires the permission of the copyright holders. The easiest way of doing this is getting the appropriate licenses from the PRS and the PPL. The venue you use *may* already have these covered (especially if it is a church hall for example) so it is worth checking into that! If they don't then give the organisations a call and find out how much a license to cover you for one night would be.... it might not be as much as you expect, and you can simply incorporate that into your ticket price.

Also, if you are still worried about bringing in enough money to cover all the costs then don't forget that people will need to drink once they ahve arrived.... I don't have a clue about the price of alcohol licensing, but at the very worst you should be able to bring a bit in towards costs by the sale of bottled water and coke (the liquid sort!!! lol). Theres all sorts of ways you can cover your costs, and even bring costs down when your putting on a night!

Don't go dissin' huddersfield to much. The old corn mill is a wicked venue, do they still have raves there? I went to space vs compulsion there 2 years ago and it was bonkers mate.

I'm not to sure about the hall idea as a venue if you are going down this route just throw it as a party and not a rave... if u get what I mean? theres not that many places to start up nights round your area is howards bar (nr tesco) still open? I know it's not the best venue (bit to bright and small) but it's a starting point.

anyway at least leeds is only up the road! must be something going on round there?

take care Mister Moles
