where do you see the rave scene - happy hardcore and future/trance harcore going in the future...

DJ magazine was wrong - back in around 1994/5 "I think"
they actually said something like the rave scene would be totally dead apart from a bunch of 14 year olds jumping up and down to 200bpm+ squeeky vocal music...

I see some more major splits coming into play... the scene really split over the 91-93 period and since then has changed a lot too... I see a major breakbeat part coming back into play and possible history repeating its self in certain aspects..

but what do YOU guys and gals think about the future of our happy scene...

Of course history will repeat itself, It always does!!!

but one thing that is definite is that dance music is here to stay, for sure!!!

Most forms of dance music are suffering from the rise of Gangsta rappers and R'n'B slappers in every ritzy club and every pub that wishes that it was a ritzy club. Forms of dance music such as House, Trance and Hard House that enjoyed the commercial boom of 1999 resulting in 10 grand a set DJs and selling millions of the popular series 'Another F**king Ibiza Album Volume 9999...' are suffering because events no longer raise the cash to pay such fees, and people are finally bored of those albums. People have switched to wannabee bad ass music because they were bored of the Ibiza album genres.
But it was the rise of Ibiza genre music that killed off Happy Hardcore.... So Hardcore is partially immune to the effect of the Ibiza recession. (But many put all forms of dance music in the same boat too.)

It is said that only forms of dance music still thriving are those that haven't enjoyed a lot of commercial sucess. Breakbeat and Drum and Bass aren't suffering too much because of this. They are genres that are so underground, they are non existent in the eyes of chart music people. In fact the genres appear to be growing because of this immunity from the Ibiza music recession. Hardcore probably has this going for it, as it hasn't enjoyed commercial sucess for a while, before recently and it now sounds a lot less cheesier than it used to. And Freeform is the most imaginative thing in dance music right now. Hardcore is now being played at hard house events which still have quite a large underground following (but from what I've noticed Trance is suffering bad, what happened to Gatecrasher monthly nights?, and Cream is more or less dead too.) so Hardcore could thrive alongside hard house for quite a while. That is what the future could be.

However commercial dance still goes on, in the form of the Clubland CD cheese stuff (it's all a ritzy disco isn't it?) and they are doing lots of covers of Hardcore tracks , which combined with Bonkers' increasing sales means more people may take a interest in Hardcore. Look at all the new Hixxy & Scott Brown fans for example! It appears they heard the toned down stuff on a clubland cd, and then moved onto the the real thing after buying Bonkers! (That's a great thing, Well done to them all for making the right decision.)
That could also be the future.

Hardcore may not neccessarily go on clinging onto the clubland cds or tidy's hardcore room, It has potential to thrive on it's own once again. As for splits, There's likely to be another split of course, like you said, there's Freeform, Breakbeat, Nu Skool Happy Hardcore (Raver Baby, Evolution e.t.c), Toned down clubland hardcore (haha) e.t.c. But it's probably too early to predict a split that could kill the hardcore genre as we know it, and create another genre that thrives in the process, whilst Hardcoreas we all know and love is enjoying popularity as it hasn't enjoyed for ages.

I do see a return in techno influence to be honest... a major return.. and this I believe will have influence on the hardcore scene... again! 94-95 stylee

when I say techno I mean bouncy vibe like "now is the time" and dis reations jiehaaa or however its spelt - through to area 51 material and deathchant records... with the harder stuff being toned down a lot with a more crisp a clearer sound to it but still demonstrating that underground feeling with emotion.

I only hope that there isn't too many jump on the bandwagon "I own the scene" type people take over a ruin it to make money as this scene is taking off again... eg. it would be bad if judge jules said this is hardcore now listen to my new album and every muppet listening to radio 1 said yeah jules IS THE SCENE for SY etc listening to his britney spears hard mix or something...

the thing is with the underground element (which partly drives the scene and feelings associated with it) the rave scene remains what it is - if it goes too commercial then it will all be based on money makers not understanding not careing and making a quick buck, destroying what we have in the meantime....

when I say money makers I'm not slagging off artists and promoters of today earning a living (well hopefully you know what I mean by what I've said)

Few things have to point out in ur post genericevolution

-Cream closed ages ago
-Gatecrasher is not Crasher(dunno y,sounds gay lol)
-Trance has changed, its not all big breakdowns anymore, theres more of a techy sound to it, plus the take off of hardstyle which is very agressive but retains the breakdown of a trance tune 98/99 era

k as for hardcore, it can only get better

Tommy Renegade , that was my post that needed correcting not genericevolution's!

anyway...

Yeah Cream at Nation in Liverpool did close ages ago, but they still do some events, I'm just saying it's dead in comparison to the way it was a huge brand name a few years ago, everyone used to scribble that logo in the back of their exercise books when I was at school! Fashions have changed now though.

The Crasher rebranding yeah, I hate it too, why should the r'n'b people have anything to do with the name? Gatecrasher One? I went to it on my mates 18th and it has nothing to do with what the name once stood for.... You won't see Vibealite or Uprising ever do that with their events, (play different music other than what it is known for) thank god. Hardcore Heaven would never do it, it would get sued under the Trade Description act thingy (I ain't no lawyer person at all, i don't know the actual name of the act) or something. Unless it had a certain live stageshow, with certain types of dancers... The other sort of Hardcore!

Tech-Trance... All I can say is that Marco V is one of my favourite trance producers, and this electro trance that Ferry Corsten is producing is nicely refreshingly different.
Agreed trance isn't the same as it was, but it is a lot more underground than it used to be, it has nowhere near the exposure that it used to have. That's why I say it has suffered.... financially, it has suffered definitely.

I reckon there is gonig to be a massive freeform explosion. Its getting a lot more fans these days and more producers are turning to it(Dougal has a tune on Sharkeys mix on Bonkers 12).

That's what I meant about Ibiza genres, tricky, you have got it dead right there. But many forms of music do benefits from a underground stint before rising back to a level of which they are able to accessed by everyone. It all goes round in cycles.

i totally agree! as with all music, a genre just comes round on itself every once in a while...i can see some of the older, beatier stuff like some of the material on prodigy's 1st album coming back, although i believe that the trancey stuff will be around for quite a while longer as it IS pulling in the crowds just now.

It may be just a Kent thing but psy trance is blasting off and outdoor hippy raves are all the rage down here, and there are more and more 'post' hippies about than ever! I see psy trance going over ground and more and more crustys about. Its annoying coz none of them realise the power of hardcore raves! Psy trance nights in london are always packed out without promoters doing any advertising. Especially if their beloved infected mushroom are playing!

Generic said there would be a return of techno- funny as i was talking to a main player in the outdoor/squat party scene the other day and he said there was gonna be techno as well as psy trance pumping in the woods this year, and as most things grow from the underground (its pretty much safe to say illegal parties in the middle of the woods are underground) its a good thing to go by!
