Hardcore didn't die in the US because it went darker. Hardcore died in the US because of the uprising of the Ibiza dance genres and Urban-influenced music, and the fact that Drum'n'bass pretty much exploded as the rave style of choice in this country.

Basically it all boils down to this:
Happycore died in the US because
A.) It was considered music for the drugged-up youth
B.) It was not considered "intelligent" music like it's cousin, Drum'n'Bass
C.) The Urban music uprising stunted the growth of the more underground styles of dance music (namely hardcore and techno)
D.) People in general don't like happy music.

The new, darker hardcore is meant to appeal to both those who enjoyed the older, more euphoric styles of the nineties as well as those who were driven away by the happy style when the scene split again in 1997. Also, the trancey vibes serve to sway people who enjoy trance towards this genre. IMO, if hardcore becomes predominantly euphoric again, it will lose much of its listener base.

Sometimes i get upset about how influenced people are over "what is in" I live in the city and everyone (relatively young) is a Hip Hop gangster wannabe, and if they arent, thats all the music they listen too. so when people ask me "what i do for fun" and i say "oh I mix records in my spare time", they are shocked when i tell them its "like" Rave music. It's like they just expect me to like what they do.

Go Loeneth!!

Hip Hop is going down the drain, and now the followers have no where to turn but to pop music. Haha. We, the ravers and glowtickers can settle down into our endless world of HAPPY HARDCORE, a genre which the commercial public will never understand but at the same time wish that they did. Peaceout -StarRizer

young people are starting to like stuff which older people dont ie HARDCORE. due to this hardcore will make a stand and rise up above the rest, soon hardcore will be one of the most listened to type of music ............

But this also has its bad points, if this does happen then the new generation will want to listen to somethig different to everyone else and a new breed of music will emerge victorious and hardcore will be left for the few true true ravers!

hardcore till I die !

I am actually liking Hardcore without all the attention tho. It's cool to find a fan here and there but in general, I dont expect people to be that free minded to like it. the same goes for some rock music the Best stuff is sometimes never even heard.

I think it's better if Hardcore stays unpopular and underground. That way, it won't become commercially intoxicated.

I feel like the happy trancy/chillin trancy feeling is gonna go away, and the freeform feel is going to be the more popular. Lots of the new freeform is very bouncy and just killer.

Altho i still see older styles of happy and trancy hanging around, just not as massive.

I think we should prepare our selves for a major return of 94/95 stylee with techno influence.. take toytown for example wicked beat structure! hard hitting with breakbeat loops... works a treat!

I don't really see what would be so very bad about that - I mean as long as the majority of the music stays the same wouldn't any extra money brought into the scene be all good?

The star in my name isn't there for nothing....

gotta disagree

if it goes too commercial then all the jump on the bandwagon-ites will destroy the rave scene for cash! it will lose the underground and "pop" artists will make a fortune f\/cking the scene up... the true hardcore artists will be forgotten and brushed under the carpet.

the rave scene in the UK (and now expanding around the world) will be destroyed within months...

for example
muppets who listen to "pop acts" will say: "slipmatt, hixxy whos that... why go to a grotty warehouse full of druggies sweating - I go to the disco at the top of the high street and dance to beyonce's new hardcore remix of thomas the tank engines theme tune"

it would escalate from there

Full circle again and again. Original house music sounded "80s disco funky" when it first started emerging, which evolved into acid house, which evolved into Hardcore and i could go on and on but i think the point is, nothing is totally original, there's always an influence somewhere. I dont think music can be 'invented' it just evolves the same as the human race itself.

you people have been saying that hardcore's gonna be completely commercialized and ruined for years..

Don't you think it has done abit of late though neway? it's not been ruined but i think it's in danger of going too far down the trance road.

The future is all about freeform, breakbeat and nu style gabber if the trancey side of hardcore continues to go the way it's going.
