Esp when tables don't hold pitch RARARARARARA!!!!!!!!!!
I swear one little thing and its a train wreck. Everything needs to be running perfectly for hardcore to work and unfortunatly my tables do not run that way. Track matches perfectly at 1%. Drop it in and it needs to be at 3%. That is not cool. I'm about to say to hell with waiting till i find a new just for new tables and just go all out right now...YEAH!!!!!!!!!
ok rant over. I now return you to your scheduled posts.

eh, something good did come out of all the rage (rage makes me determined). learned a new trick for scratching and figured out how to thorw in those breakbeat tunes with the regular boom boom. unfortunatly the luna-c record i ordered was out of stock (the one with piano progression x) so i dont know what im gonna do about that.
when i get my new decks they are being treated like children.

i feel your pain man! i'm just learning to mix and it's so annoying when the mix just wont sync. add the fact that i've got bottom of the range belt drive tables till i can afford something decent and you've got a very angry DJ
not all the time though, it makes up for it when it all goes right and you pull it off! the only thing people seem to be saying to me the the minute is "practice practice practice etc. etc." so i'll pass on this ....... erm ...... wisdom?!
im guessing you've been mixing for a while though if you're scratching

Yeah i used to think like that as well mate everyone goes thro it. Make tapes of your mixing as it helps to know when you are going wrong, and be gentle with your decks if they have a low torque as they take longer to get back to the right speed if you manually adjust. I played live for the first time recently it was the best feelin in the world and makes the practice all worth while!!

Yeah I make tapes frequently and have been mixing for about a year. Beat mixing really isnt a problem anymore, I can match in about 10-20 seconds, less if i know the song well. The problem comes in makes sure the tables hold that tempo. Hopefully I'm gonna be able to play out soon, gonna give a demo to a local bar where a buddy of mine spins. Its old and short but its the only thing of mine I've been able to have put on CD from tape.
http://music.globalbeatz.net/dj-mix-mp3/2549 <~ Thats the demo. There is also a gabba mix on that CD, I just couldn't put it up. {)~No room for hate in Hardcore~(}

I play two genres, Hardcore and Drum 'n' Bass, and it appears that i'm always on form with one, and doing crap with the other. I guess it's adapting the differences between the two, hardcore is four to the floor, whereas drum 'n' bass is breakbeat style. Now there's breakbeat hardcore but that's irrelevant.
I didn't know whether to feel frustrated or relieved when my belt drives stopped rotating properly, it gave me an excuse to get some direct drives.
Hardcore is fairly difficult to mix, and more difficult when starting due to it's sheer speed, what helped me was buying a few slower funky house records, learn to mix with them, and then when you get confident, do the same with your hardcore records, and it will all come together.
Because belt drives don't hold pitch too well, you have to focus and concentrate more. By starting with belt drives you are probably learning more than you will with direct drives, in the same amount of time.
I have similar problem, my friend has lent me his mixer but it is rather basic, you can only listen to one track in the headphones (not even split cue!) and it's taking a while to get used to. Only last week when I played out on some 1210s, stanton sk-2f mixer, and sony mdrv700 headphones, and now i'm back to reality (at home) with Numark TT-1650s, this borrowed mixer and Sony MDRV100 headphones (the model number says it all) It's better than no mixer at all, but I just can't hear things as clearly as when i had a split cue mixer.

I used a friend of mines belt drives once... man I could not mix to save the life of me on them... So don't waste your time on belt drives because if the opposite works when upgrading to direct drives then your going to have to learn how to mix all over again :)

Low quality decks are great if you are unsure if mixing is something you want to persue but damn, once you are past the initial learning period they just cause undue frustration.

Ive been messing about with mixing as long as i can remember from old crappy tape decks then to belt driven old,Old technics tables, then about 5 months ago, after many years of frustration i got some Technics1210MK5.
Takes a lot of getting used to but i am alot calmer person coz of it(hehehehe)

100% agree with silver
get ya self some technics off ebay or something is my advice... belt drives are no good (they only give you a rough idea).. I learnt on belt drives and got a job in a record shop using technics 1200mk2
this is where I really really learnt some major tricks of the trade mixing on them all day... then I was lucky enough to be given a cash injection (so I spent the lot on technics and sold my belt drives!!!)
I'd get a loan or something and get technics! they hold their money pretty well so go for second hand ones and then you can always sell them later on down the line and still make the money back. a pair of 1210's second hand usually make £250-£450 as a general rule on ebay.
