Do you new much about computers? Great you do, and then you’re in the right place.

The problems are with Internet, Games, Software and the Post Screen.

The Internet
It goes dead after 30Min of being on line but it is still connected. Nothing will get displayed on the Internet Explorer page, Not even "The page can not be displayed" and the only way to fix the problem is to restart the PC and I have to do this every 30mins.

Games
They crash all the time and they end without warning.

Software
Windows XP reports that it has a problem and needs to end but this happens with most games and my BT Midband disc. It tells me that the computer does not support USB.

The Post Screen
When booting up from a Cold Boot. It will display my CPU and not when I Restart the PC. This mostly happens when a press F8 before Windows starts and pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart.

I have a ABIT IS7-E Motherboard, Intel P4 2.8 800FSB, 1024DDR 400RAM (2x512). MSI GeForce 128DDR FX5200 x8 Graphic Card, 7in1 Card Reader, Floppy Drive, Sony DVD Rom, Sony CD-Rewriter Drive, 40GB Hard Drive. 17" CRT Monitor, Windows XP Pro.

Can this be an IRQ Problem but I’m not using it all in Windows XP but here they are anyway.

IRQ 0 System timer
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1)
IRQ 5 Intel(R) 82801EB SMBus Controller - 24D3
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel
IRQ 16 MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5200 (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE
IRQ 17 Realtek AC'97 Audio
IRQ 18 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D7
IRQ 18 Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
IRQ 18 Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers
IRQ 19 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4
IRQ 23 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller

F...U.. Right, first if you think its IRQ check with System Information in the system tools. Id recommend an upto date virus scan, spyware remover new drivers.. Last resort, full rebuild

For a start I'd recommend ditching internet explorer and using Mozilla Firefox instead http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ - it's free, it's faster, it's more flexible, it's got better security, it's got built in popup blocking... how can you lose?! :)

Also have you spoken to your ISP about it?

I can't believe you guys have forgotten the obvious.

Format, and start again. When you install windows again - setup the internet and nothig else, then get all the security patches you can find.

Get yourself a firewall, like Zone Alarm.

What about a simple Scan-disc, then a defrag.

That fixes most problems.

Maybe even bad RAM.

I have got all the Windows Update, Latest, Drivers, Norton Antivirus 2003 Professional Edition, Norton Personal Firewall, and Windows XP Professional. I have contacted ABIT but English is a second language and you can never get a answer. In the BIOS settings, I have just fixed the Internet problem buy changing PCI Latency Timer (CLK) in the PnP PCI Configurations to 64. It was set to its default 32. Now I have got a Intel 865PE chipset. This works different from older chipset, like it takes 5 secs to load up the Post Screen. This is the RAM cooling Down/up and it's the same shutting down. So it may be doing what it meant to but not sure. So if you have got a Intel P4 Motherboard with a Intel 865PE chipset and Windows XP can you do the following please...

Make sure that when you start up the computer it will show the Post Screen and not Logos Like, HP, Dell or Intel. You may need to go in to the BIOS setting to change it.

1. Turn on computer. Make sure the Post Screen shows your CPU.

2. Press F8 before Windows starts. This will give you options like Boot in to Safe Mode and so on.

3. On your keyboard press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. This will restart your PC.

4. Look at the POST SCREEN and it should show your CPU. Like Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4. 2.8. My one doesn’t

Also could it be by my Graphic Card. I have look at PC World and most of there Intel PC don’t have graphic card that has NVIDIA chipset. The AMD PC has got graphic card with NVIDIA chipset.

Thanks

**** You

Do a search on google for "spybot" and install/run it. this detects spyware etc including dialers and that sort of thing.... run that as well as the usual scan disk/antivirus

Ad-aware is another spyware cleaner (free)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Works well, I've used it to clean up a fair few friends' computers.

Free anti-virus?
AVG: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
ClamWin: http://clamwin.sourceforge.net/
I can't really vouch for either of these though as I haven't used them.
