I offered the seller 1500 for a nissan skyline, he said yes. But what I'm wanting to know, is what should I do before buying it. So if anyone thats really into cars can help, I'd be really gratful.

What's the year and model of the Skyline? Skylines are nice cars.

Acquiring a drivers license often helps!

I would find a local mechanic who will look over the car b4 you buy it, so you know if it will need any work doing to it, or if it has had any accidents ect.

What exactly are you looking to do to it? I know since it has a i-6 it might be a little on the chunky side. Carbon Hood will lighten up your load on the front. (allows for much better turn-in) 89 means used...so id check to see how the clutch has made it to this point.

Theres plenty to do to a skyline...just depends on ur "need" for the car. Congrats By the way!

EDIT: Greddy, Blitz, HKS, and Toda Racing have all had their hands on Skylines before so aftermarket parts from these guys would be a good place to look. Although im honestly not sure about the 89'. Hope that helps

I have my license Simon I'm want to fix it up of course, unfortunatly its an auto. (and a trans to manual will cost 1800) I took it for a ride when I saw it, its such a drifter, but man is it powerful! Just booked it for a check up at the mechanics.

what engines in the gte? 2.0 n/a inline 6?
if i was getting a skyline id definately buy it as a manual. a skyline without a gear knob is like hardcore with no bass. its just not right.

i dont know what the prices of skylines are like where you are from and i dont know what the exchange rate is between New Zealand dollars and the euro but if thats a really cheap price then id be very wary of one going too cheap. there must be a reason. bring someone with you who knows a thing or two about cars and get them to give it a good runover first. it might sound like a bargain at first but if its been driven into the ground by the previous owners then you could be looking at some huge repair bills in the near future

Please dont tell me your trying to drift in an automatic car....make sure you only do it in parking lots where there is A LOT of room. Automatics cant control the engine dynamics that a manual can control. (most of the actual drifting is initiated by "popping the clutch".) Use caution dude. And btw youll probably break your tranny in no time if you try to drift at high rpm all the time with no clutch. (Revving really high in nuetral and then slamming it into gear to create your slide)

When I learn to metamorphasize into inanimate objects I must remember to give you a bell, or horn, er... Skylines are cool but I've always been put off by the gobsh!te interior. Even the R34's aren't great.

tunnelrush is right, if you plan on drifting in an auto you're going to need some serious power - £10Ks worth of modded power for a Skyline. Saving a bit more for a GTS would be much better for that as they fit two tubbies on it as standard.

Get a nice manual S14a 200sx for difting. FBU it (Free Boost Upgrade) and you 'll have the most useable driftable car you can get. Empty carparks and T-junctions will suddenly be oddly arrousing... I know, I used to have one.

...And no, I didn't "out-drift" myself one day either!

Yet another unwitty and pointless remark.

E-Rokm, always check for rust ,especially under the mats and where the wheels are, because if it's there you're wasting your cash. Only advice i can really offer - lovely car btw :)

The only two good R31's were the GTS, and the GTS-X. I wouldn't go for a N/A non turbo GTE skyline tho, as just about any holden for that price is just as fast.

Also it was only after the R31's when Skylines truly gained cult status with the release of the R32 line (namely the R32GTR) which still remains the fastest stock GTR to ever be produced(yes even faster then the R33 and R34 GTR's)

skyline's are freakin' sweat cars, bummer they never saw the light of day over here. I think nissan was planning on releasing one here in the near future though

how many miles are on the car, what changes have been made to it and how many owners has it had?
