^Yup. in 2007 we'll have our first US skyline. It'll sit on the chassis of the Infinite G35 we have here in the states. Engine platform shouhld be the twin turb's from japan.

if i was getting a skyline id definately buy it as a manual. a skyline without a gear knob is like hardcore with no bass. its just not right.

i dont know what the prices of skylines are like where you are from and i dont know what the exchange rate is between New Zealand dollars and the euro but if thats a really cheap price then id be very wary of one going too cheap. there must be a reason. bring someone with you who knows a thing or two about cars and get them to give it a good runover first. it might sound like a bargain at first but if its been driven into the ground by the previous owners then you could be looking at some huge repair bills in the near future

And btw youll probably break your tranny in no time if you try to drift at high rpm all the time with no clutch. (Revving really high in nuetral and then slamming it into gear to create your slide)

tunnelrush is right, if you plan on drifting in an auto you're going to need some serious power - £10Ks worth of modded power for a Skyline. Saving a bit more for a GTS would be much better for that as they fit two tubbies on it as standard.

Get a nice manual S14a 200sx for difting. FBU it (Free Boost Upgrade) and you 'll have the most useable driftable car you can get. Empty carparks and T-junctions will suddenly be oddly arrousing... I know, I used to have one.

...And no, I didn't "out-drift" myself one day either!

it mightnt have a nice interior, the worst thing about jap cars but you dont buy a skyline for looks or interior. its the performance that makes it legendary. and the 200sx is some drift car. and i love the headlights on the S14a, such an agressive looking front end. i would chop off a testicle for the newer S15. the ultimate drifter!

@DJ E-Rok - good luck with the Skyline you lucky git!

650Bhp? Hmm... are you sure? Most people tend to overrate the power their cars make.

The most powerful S13's I know of are Bren's @ 450Bhp, SCA's (RR centre) project car @ 480Bhp and the ex-Norris Designs car with 550Bhp (I think). These are all pretty famous S13's. And they have a spent a little bit more than £6K on mods - try £20K. Have a look on www.sxoc.com

If true though, well impressed. But that will mean about 50 miles between engine rebuilds and some SERIOUS charge cooling issues then! lol Is he trying for a competition drift car, or just a road monster?

My Coop has 270Bhp at the moment and that's plenty fast enough to take on any supercar under £100K. Although the modding thing is addictive! I need a dump valve and strutbrace for it badly... Then a charge cooler for the summer of course. That should see about 310-330Bhp. Atfer that it just gets scarey. The number of cars I've nearly climbed into the boot of as it is! lol

Tips for buying a used car.

If its a manual, you can check if the clutch is about to go ($300-600 to repair usually). To do this, start the car, put the clutch in, put the car in 4th gear and slowly release the clutch. The car should stall straight away. If it 'hesitates' about stalling, then the clutch is about to go.

Check the suspension. On each of the cars four corners, press down firmly enough times until the car is moving up and down. Let go of the car. It should stop oscilating after at most one and a half oscilations. Any more and that corner of the car has a rooted shock absorber. Expect to pay $150-$300 for a shock absorber.

Check the engine.
Get someone else to rev the car and check the colour of the smoke. (No smoke is best). Blue smoke indicates burning oil, possibly the rings are gone. Stay clear. White smoke (not steam) indicates coolant in the engine, possibly a blown head gasket. Stay away. Black smoke suggests the car is running rich on petrol - its not ideal but its not the end of the world.

Check C.V joints:
Get the car in a carpark, open the windows. Turn the car in full lock and drive round in tight circles. Listen for a 'click click click' noise. This indicates a CV joint is on its way out. About $150 for a joint.

Check for rust:
Especially check: bottoms of doors, around windows, wheel arches. Rust can be expensive to fix if it is serious enough.

Lastly you can get a check to see if there is any money owing on the car or anything like that. Costs approx $5... If you buy a car with unpaid fines or finance owing on it privately in NZ, you will be liable for all of it!!!

Have fun :)
