I had a think about it.

Is (happy) hardcore really that hard?

I mean, I find some hard trance stuff to be pretty nasty.

Where does hardcore begin and makina end? When does it stop being euro dance and start being Raver Baby...hardcore?

I guess for me, I found it humours that hardcore isn't the hardest but its name implies so.

Damn names.

I think most people have developed this sense of what hardcore is by the bpm. taking raver baby for instance, it's classified as hardcore because it's 4 beat and in the 170 bpm.

I think the reason why you don't think it's hard anymore, is because your desensitized towards it. Porn is the same, you find yourself looking for harder & harder stuff, until you find your really only satisfeied with fully naked women.

That an interesting point.

But then again, I cant stand hardcore porn. Its too hardcore. The things I've seen are horrible. I dont know how people can purchase, film or participate in some of the crap thats out there.

Anyway, back to music.

I still find some of the older (96) gabber harder than upfront hardcore...

Stupid name.

Maybe, because your a producer, and you might pick holes in the newer tunes, rather than seeing them as they where when you where younger. It was always better when you where a kid..

Also another interesting and insightful point. Maybe I need to retire? Nah, the main reason, I started this topic was because I find the name to be a bit of a contradiction, thats all.

Of cource, even RaverBaby is harder than Darude.

*runs*

nor is people dressed up in amusement park costumes, but damn is it funny

a good chunk of kfa stuff is harder than trancier stuff, and it hardly has kick drums if any.

it's the name we've been branded with, doesn't necessarily mean we have to stay within the boundries of what mainstreamers define the genre as.

however when it comes to money aspects, that's a whole different ball park.

Granted, happy hardcore is an oxymoron.

Indeed, more wise words.

Thats it, if/when I start a label, I'm not gonna care about what genre/sub genre it is.

Hardcore to me, is what I call hardcore

Well said, but how can you ask people if hardcore is hard, when your saying to me hardcore is what i call hardcore...
What people perceive as hard is in the eye of the beholder, to you it might not be hard, but to others it might be so hard it's extreme.

So surley hardcore is hardcore.

Happy Hardcore well i mean most tracks live up to its genre of being HAPPY and the basslines being rough and HARDCORE.

But as far as getting hardcore(upfront/freeform) Well my friends ask me what makes this "hardcore" well they think its just "fast techno music". In a sense if you don't know what it is it essentially is "fast techno music". Umm there are some "hardore" tracks that i would not consider hardcore i would consider them "hard dance". But when you have that bassline going over 170 and you hear that shuffling of the kickdrum and just thump/psssh/thump/psssh LOL>.well that isn't a good demonstartion of word is it??? lol...i don't know but My friends listen to it they are like why does it have so many vocals and trance stuff in it? and pianos in it? im like thats hardcore. I think the most hardcore tracks are the fast static trance synths and piano rifts. Thats Hardcore and there are some tracks that are just fast and trancey and are hardcore. Alot of people when i say hardcore they are metal or punk? im like upfront hardcore and just it gets dirty! But i think we rightfully own hardcore and we are HARDCORES. But keep posting this is interesting.....
