right im wanting to build a new pc but i dont know what parts to buy and where from!
im after something with this sort of spec:
- amd 2ghz and above processer
- pref a SCSI board (as long as they aint stupidly espensive) or a RAID if they are
- 512 ddr ram or above if its goin cheap nowadays
- dvd rom
- dvd rw
- 128mb graphics card
- 60gb hard drive
- a new case cause th eone i have is far too big for what i need, and its doesnt circulate air very well at all (even with 4 fans, 2 in 2 out)
- + powerpack and cables
im looking to spend £400 - £500, is this spec possible?
i havnt got a clue whats compatable with what, whats good quality and whats not so i could do with a bit of help :)

Dude.
What SCSI? I mean if you want a cheap RAID you can use SATA.
But later you want a 60GB hard drive?
Ram is very cheap these days though.
Wait, you want a DVD-rom and then a DVD-rw? Why not just get the DVD-rw?
hmmm.
Most of parts that you buy are compatible though.
Um, judging by the current currency rate, I would say that it is highly do-able for well under that price. If a shop can't do it, they're trying to rip you off.

suppose its a waste of money really cause i wont be doing much dvd to dvd ripping at all

im not going to bother going to a shop, id rather spend time building it myself rather than give them my hard earned cash that could be getting spend on better things like records! what sort of brands should i be going for? could you recomend a board and a processor, powerpack and cables as they are the only things that im not sure about, everything else is pretty much plug and play

I know what SCSI is, but I'm confused as why you want it.
And why not get a 300GB seeing as they are easy to ge then the 60GBs. At least in stores here.
You can still do DVD ripping and burning with the one drip.
Unless you get cheap-ass OEM, the most of the time, the cables come with the hardware. But for powersupplies, I recommend ANTEC. They have true power readings not the peak performance that alot of power packs advertise. I mean, they will run happily at 450w without breaking a sweat whereas the generic will hit 450w and smoke and burn.

May as well post this here to save posting a whole new topic.
How dangerous is it to stick your hands in your pc without an anti static band and mat... Unadvisable?

*edit* crap link
check out currys and look for the Compaq SR 1619 Unit.
just bought this the other week, cheap as chips if you keep your old monitor - only £400 for the base unit and it'll do basically anything you need it to.

It's fine just touch the sides of your cases or file cabinet, you will find most people dont even use them. I don't and I'm always messing with mine and it's still sweet.
