how did it start ?...

well me and my bro got my mam a brand new cooker for christmas and had to have it replaced because of some minor damage to it when it was first delivered. it was replaced earlier this month but my mother said that there was something wrong with it for the fact that it cooked quite a large turkey in under 2 hours.

well earlier today she put fresh lard in the oven to melt ready to cook a chicken for dinner on a heat of about 50-70 degrees celcius (which is the minium heat of this oven). about 5-7 minutes later the thing is up in f*cking flames she calls the fire brigade but hangs up in the middle of the call to shout a me to get out of bed. i wake up thinking im late for work but no i open my bedroom door and the house is full of smoke, i run downstairs in a panic out to the kitchen. her boyfriend ray is in there trying to put out the fire and he tells me to keep back. he managed to put it out and in a spur of the moment type thing i grab my mobile and take these...

both were taken about 1-2 mins after it was put out

most of the black stuff on the floor is glass from the oven door

an ambulance turns up a moment later and checks to see if we are fine and then two fire engines turn up along with a police car. the firemen inspect the cooker and assume that the fat in the oven overheated, but that wasnt the case. apparantly the thermostat inside the cooker must have been faulty. they made sure that the cooker was completly isolated from the house electrics and filled out some details about the cooker. the only thing thought is that we got the cooker insured but we dont have home insurance.

so the total damage consists of...
1 completly f*cked up cooker - insured
1 melted laminate floor and
1 completly smoke damaged celing and wall in my kitchen and some minor smoke damage my dining room aswell

SO A WORD OF WARNING

DON'T BUT AN INDESIT COOKER

no bone was on about that the cooker was expensive, if she needed a oven then it was a good present. every kitchen needs an oven

it isn't anything to do with sexism, if the house needer a new cooker then who was going to shell out to get it? his mum! so why not get her one for christmas if she is going to have to fork over the money for a new one anyways.

Course it is! ask any girl or women, would they mind if U got bought an Iron, Cooker, Washing Machine, Dish Washer, anything to do with house work of your son, daughter, husband, boy friend! they wouldnt be happy, fare play if the house needed it but i would of gone around it differently wouldnt got it for a present! Swansea's mum obiously didnt mind but what im sayin is that i know my mum or GF and alot of others would not of respected it!

i don't think it is and i think it is people like you that keep sexism alive and an issue. she needed a new cooker so they got her one as a christmas present. it is a necessity in a house and if a new one is needed it is a perfect present. my nana's washing machine broke near christmas and my dad got her a new one for christmas. is it sexist or is the fact it is essential to a house and she needed a replacement one which would cost alot of money. if the present had been to a man you wouldn't have read into it but as it was to a woman you're suddenly having a tiff about it. don't you see you're the one segregating between the sexes and not swansea?

....Hardcore4eva has a point.

I bought my Mum a set of saucepans for her birthday when I was 12 but she didn't take offence, bless her.

....and well done Ray!

He does have a point but i don't think it belongs in this situation...

i agree with the iron idea tho... if sum woman recieved an iron chances are she'd be a bit pissed. But with an oven which costs a shit load, i reckon that'd be a sweet gift, and you never know, swanseas mum might be delia smith n lovin' the whole cooker idea.
