I'm not really sure how this happened but my website has made it onto several search engines! It is found easiest on Yahoo! but is also on...
I thought things like this cost money, and I havn't given credit card details out on anything. I got a free publicity sign up but that was only with these other search engines. And i'm not even sure if that worked.
The freaky thing is, on yahoo its quite often the 1st or 2nd result! And I don't have to be very specific at all. Some of my happyhardcore.com posts are on there too. See for yourself,

I'm pretty sure all freewebs pages are automatically registered with all major search engines as are all happyhardcore.com pages.

^^yes it would, but all the major websites pay to index their sites to push them further up the searches. With a specific search like John O-T no websites would pay to get that search indexed so it goes to the most relevent next free one

I get what your saying, I was just shocked that it was quite often the first or second result. Even for just phrases that were in the homepage but not in the title. EG. if I just type in Hi durks then its there straight away. (personal joke word thing) Its an uncommon word yes, but surly out of all the sites out there mine cant be the best one with it!

Any website that is linked to from a website that is already registered on a search engine will eventually find its way into the search engine. Things called "crawlers" or "robots" go round the sites in their database looking for links, and basically crawling round the net. Remember, the bigger a search engine is the more results it can give for a search query.
As far as I know all the search engines are free to join too - as Gobbo said, payment only comes into it if you want to push your site further up the rankings using a system like google's AdWords

yup! I have that problen on Yahoo to!
Its got like 400 unread messages in inbox thats all my stuff that i have written on here via PM'S that have been transferred on to there! weird!
