As you probably heard it looks like Blue Frog is giving up the fight. There is also a reccomendation on the website that Bluefrog members have been using to keep updated on the DDOS attacks on the official site.

Taken from http://castlecops.com/postx154441-0-210.html

quote:
My urgent recommendation. Remove the Blue Frog Application NOW. Use one of these methods for Windows:

Start > Programs > Blue Security
Uninstall the plug-in
Uninstall Blue Frog

Or

Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs
Remove Blue Security
Browser > Tools > Extensions > Uninstall the Blue Frog SRT

Do not delay. Do not reinstall.

WHY THE URGENCY?

We have witnessed the destruction of Blue Security from a wave of different attacks. First the spam wave, second the DDOS wave. There is a strong reason to believe that the third wave takes control of the frog to launch both spam attacks and DDOS attacks.

The application was designed as a client, not a server. Blue Frog always polled the "home base" for work, after authenticating. Home base was an IP address, and a system that returned a positive or negative response to authentication. Then it sent a queue of tasks to the frog.

THE ATTACKER SAYS
If I took over that IP address (a DNS change) I can send back that positive response to the blue frog authentication, and then send scripts to the frog to do anything I like.

TERRY SAYS
I hope you followed that. Our much beloved Fred is now not only dead - he is deadly.

UNINSTALL NOW.

Terry Bowden

i've never really understood spam before just thought it's like cheeky advertising but do people actually make good money from it?

The way I understand is Blue Security was winning the war against spam, and the spammers didn't like it so they got together and attacked Blue Security with every dirty trick they had. An internet backbone was taken down by the spammers effectively disconnecting the whole of Isreal from the internet, which is where they were hosted from, and taking 9000 servers offline.

Blue Security did survive the attack in the end but they decided it was probably best to close the site to avoid any more problems with the rest of the internet.

Who's up for writing Blue Frog 2?

I think the next one should be completely automated and able to do everything from each individual computer without the need for a central site, that way it would be impossible to attack without hacking the software.

[Additional]
Looks like someone else has had the same idea.

im certaintly no computer expert, surfing the nets about all i no.

but i wouldnt put it past them to get round that aswell, if they can cut off israels internet and are making so much money from there activities they wont give up without a fight.

not saying people shouldnt fight them right back, but the way it normally goes with people is they develop one thing to stop them, then the hackers find a way round that.

i hope they do get stopped though cos there 100% in the wrong

I doubt they actually make any money from spam because no one actually likes to receive it or takes any notice of it. The only thing spam achieves is to bung up all the email servers and generally annoy people. I think if anything spam would actually hurt a business, I'd never deal with any company that sent spam.

a ddos attack is when, (as far as i know), so many packets are sent to a server it can't handle the data load and crashes. so if theres enough of them its quite easy i guess. it happened in some us school when a kid told every student to hit F5(refresh) on the school homepage and it crashed the server. He got arrested by the fbi!

Yea, there was also a petition to crash internet, i think they got something like 3 out of 6 of the base servers, if they would have got all, the whole internet would have stopped working or something. Then there was the Jam Echelon Day, ofcourse we cant know how that went ;)

open-sourceing something like this is well.... STUPID

yes, i know lets write software where the source is readily available so ANYONE can look for loopholes and bugs.. and exploit them at will...

this needs go underground, and still have a have a preasance up top aswell.

id happily support any efforts to stop spam, im off to vouch what i can spare :D

Crash internet? Because its possible, it wouldnt have been anything permanent, just an advice that internet is not reliable. Thats what many hackers do too, they attack a site thats supposed to be using state of the art security, they keep it down for an hour just to show it aint unbeatable.
