I'm sat here now knowing that in 45 minutes time I'll be starting my final exam of the year. Problem is I don't have a clue what most of the subject is about and think a fail is on the cards.

I was just wondering if anyone on this website knows that if you fail a module in a degree, and also fail the re-sit, can you still progress into the next year, because I thought if I fail this twice I'm screwed, but apparently you can carry on but with a rubbish degree level.

Anyway if anyone else has any type of exams coming up, then good luck to you all and I hope you all do well. As for me, I just can't wait to crack open the can of Carling I have in my bag as soon as I leave the exam hall at 11.30, and enjoy it as I walk back to college to get absolutely wankered for the next 3 months

Good luck with it, sure it'll go better than you expect it usually does.

It varies uni to uni.

At Manchester it used to be (I assume still is, but I haven't been involved with that side for a while) that you need to pass all your core modules (get greater than 45% in every one of them) AND you need to pass overall ie get an average of 45% or greater. That means, you could fail one of your non-core modules, but do really well in another subject and still go through.

Not over-sure on what happens if you fail a re-sit though. I think you can re-do the year, *but* it just becomes a straight bachelors, no honours. If your on a Masters, you will often get dropped down to a Bachelors, although if you do really well in your second year you may be able to persuade them to up you back up onto the Masters.

I'm sure you won't need all that info though!!!! Best of luck!

is there really any point with goin to uni if your not gonna come out with a good degree?

dunno i wouldnt bother unless i thought it was gonna get me somewhere, i've got hardly any qualifications and have worked in loadsa jobs where doin the same job as me are people with shit degrees.

this is crap jobs like taking abuse all day on complaints lines in call centres, even stackin shelfs and crap like that.

you can make better money just labouring, if i'd gone to study for years of my life then came back to that i'd be gutted.

not just that but you'll either be in £1000's of debt or have wasted loadsa your parents money if there helping you.

if i went uni i'd make sure i got best grades and the subject was a worthwhile one where a degrees needed, and not just a waste of a few years

^^^ Well I don't want to sound like big-headed (which I will do) but to be honest I think any degree from my university is worthwhile, as to get here I had to get three A's at A-Level and Durham is considered one of the best unis in the country behind Oxford and Cambridge.

Anyway I know a finalist who didn't do that well in his first year at the same degree as me, and now he has an interview lined up for a job that could start him on 37.5k a year as an area manager for Aldi.

To be honest recently I've lost a lot of ambition of geting a kick-ass job as I've realised the best jobs would require me moving away from all my family and friends, and with my experience at uni, I don't think I'm willing to do that as soon as I graduate. Whats the point of having loads of money when you've got hardly anyone to enjoy it with?

do you think employers think that though?

i dunno mate, not saying i'm right just i no so many people who moan about havin loadsa debt on there shoulders and a degree that meant nothing to there future careers.

in that time coulda got a trade or something and been rolling in it.

i'll agree there they wont care about your first year grades or your a levels, just the end degree result you come out with and relevant work experience for jobs you apply to.

nothing wrong with that, just if thats what you want aint much point continuing when could be around your family and friends and tryin to find something with a future.

not saying i'm right, it may suit you to continue what your doin everyones different.

i've done one year of college so far, still got another two before i could go to uni. I'd be 24 by then but i'm seriously considering it, doesnt feel to late and i think i could get a lot out of it.

But at end of day i'm already gettin in debt after this one year of college. I work part time nights 20 hours a week but still get support of my dad.

This is again down to me, i could live cheaper and get by on my own but i choose not to. I have a flat and like a few drinks with my mates, buy vinyls etc.

But i'd feel bad taking cash off my dad and gettin into debt if i didnt think it was seriously helping with my future and it was building up to something.
