But for happy hardcore, needs to get back that 90's sound... but you can't really bring back the past with the same affect. There really isn't hardly any happy hardcore artists about now-a-days still producing the style. Some of you may correct me, but i don't beleive todays stuff what you hear on say a bonkers cd is happy hardcore... it's just the freeformation genre what is called 'Hardcore/UK Hardcore'.
Even though people like Scott brown, marc smith, hixxy, sharkey, Charly Lownoise, Mental Theo, Paul Elstak and many more are still about... They are mostly producing different genre of music.
Well, I wouldnt say "freeform-ation", because freeform is it's own style. At the same though, you really cant say "Happy" Hardcore either, because not every track is "insane videogame melody; cheesy female vocal" either. And UK Hardcore pretty much can mean ANY style of Hardcore from there...so I guess we're kinda stuck since every genre has some trance element in it now. It just depends on the DJ/Producer on whether I call it "Happy" Hardcore or not.

Listen to the correct labels and you'll find tracks saturated in happiness.

It's like Scott Brown...1 vinyl has "Wakey Wakey" while the other has "Boomstick"...just depends. Any artist can churn out some cheese. Heck, look at Sharkey! Freeform for 10 years, and then BAM! a new mix of "Bonkers Anthem".

Well, I dont have Bonkers 17 yet, but I have heard the samples. Currently, I am trying to re-collect some of the Bonkers cds because friends ruined mine. I need to get new copies of:
Bonkers 1, 3, 5, & 6.

Isn't Happy Hardcore the 'Vibe' rather than the 'sounds'?

Darren Styles with his 'cutting deep as a knife' and 'i just want you to save me' has already started it.

Alot of techno has trancey elements and there were a few tracks that came out when happyhard began that were just as trancey as what it has become, with most tracks having trancey elements. Maybe i should start listening to some new records again with the evolution begining. I not saying the trancey stuff isn't good shit. I still enjoy dancing to it because it's much better produced nowdays than say a couple of years ago. But, to compete with other genres at the same speed and energy, it has to evolve. The freeform sound and its offshoots has evolved more than happy over the past few of years. And its not just sounds of the same speed and energy that happy has to be worried about. Hardstyle has grown much more than happy over the past few years, in Sydney at least, and you can see that happy is responding by making the base that much harder e.g essential plantinum.
I just might go record shopping next week!

To join in with the bump it seems that Hardcore is biger than 5-6 years ago and I thought Hardcore was 'dead' in 2001 except for then then new Raverbaby releses and Freeform! Bonkers 8 (The Rezurection) was the first 'comeback' Bonkers which bust have sounded very new at the time compared to Sy's Old Skool Bonkers 1 & Bonkers 2 mix (the mix where he mixed classics from the first two Bonkers) Now Freeform from back then is 'Old Skool' & I use the term (get ready to hate me) 'Old Skool Upfront' for the early Raverbaby (& similar) stuff from the 2000-2003 era which at the time was really adavnced compared to the 1990s but is now a bit dated!
Shame Happy hardcore hasnt returned but interest in Hardcore from the 1990s is large!

I could see magazines like Mixmag starting proper coverage on HHC and it getting more popular. However, I don't see it becoming mainstream or anything like that
