Chav is a slang term in the United Kingdom which appeared in mainstream dictionaries in 2005.

The term "chav" refers to a subcultural stereotype of people fixated on fashions such as flashy "bling" jewellery (Generally gold), and designer clothing with the beige Burberry pattern (most famously the baseball cap which has since been discontinued by the company), and such brands as Lonsdale, Berghaus, Burberry, Von Dutch, Louis Vuitton, Fred Perry, Stone Island, Kappa, Ben Sherman, Adidas, Nike, and best-known Sergio Tacchini. Musically chavs also tend to have a different taste mainly involving rap, dance music, RnB and an unusual type of music known as New Monkey. Response to the term has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.

really... i thought chavs were like bums or something lol..... not like Louis Vuitton, Ben Sherman wearers and stuff...

Lets face it some of us were the pre-chavs and some of them are our kids, or little brothers and sisters. I can dress like it in brussels as being over 30 it post ironic ( oh yeah like garden gnomes or is that just old age fartyness ) that said on seeing the white cliffs on visits I remember that unless I can hang around with mike skinner and the streets I will be cutting a lonely cloth and may still be beat up on a street corner by some 12 year olds swearing to loud and to often.
As even they can spot the subtle differences.

Raver Chav

1) Pork Pie hat Baseball Cap (Burberry variety )
2) Pig tails ( for girls ) Council estate face lift
3) Hoodie ( yes we are them ) Tracksuit
4) white gloves + whistle Bling
5) Not alchol Cider ( usually the white type )
6) Interesting conversation Cars, fights or lack of shags
7) Skip and smile in step Preggers and moody
8) love of neon love of shiny gold colours ( no precious )
9) poor cos of ravin, decks etc poor cos of mobiles
10) Lots of love , no fear lots of hate, lots of fear

Forgive them for they no not what they do.

Unfortunatley they like to be near us other wise the would have to revert to pop and speed garage and as we can see, that is not cool or built to last.
tut.. garage, a pickpockets anthem

They should leave us hoodies to shoplift in quiet.

Its bad enough they bum all our fags off us.

Lets face it, we put up with it cos we are to nice and afraid they will set their big hooligan brother and his dog on us

weird, I alwyas thought they were like the "ghetto people" we have here
ie bling bling and stupid fubu/exco clothing

but it looks like they wear expensive brands, not crappy size XXXXL T shirts

I wish our ghetto people were chavs - at least they'd go to raves...here you'd NEVER see anybody dressed like that at a rave

Its usually fake designer clothes that they wear, as Chavs are usually from the working class background.

Anyway no matter how shit this topic is, Hardcore is now seen as a chav genre of music by a large proportion of people in the UK I believe, but that doesn't mean chavs have "ruined" the scene by all means.

I hate all the bollox anyway about the "scene" blah blah, I like hardcore as it is good music, and if people think I'm a chav cos of it, then they are quite frankly retarded

I would say hardcore is mainly chav music. I am a chav and proud of it and i aint nothing like any of you ignorant people have described. A minority of my mates are 100% hardcore. The rest just only really enjoy it on gurners.

(**** all you wankers who hate chavs you are just sterotyping pricks)

when you say "I am chav" what does that mean?
does it mean you wear bling bling and expensive clothes?

or does it mean you're someone who follows trends to be "cool"

(I'm not being dumb about it, I actually want to know what you mean)

People will sit on here and come up with definitions all day to try and justify their own ignorance, but basically what they mean is: anyone they see wearing sports clothes and/or rings is a chav. I probably fit the description perfectly when I was younger, wore trackies, a cap and got pissed on parks etc... looking back I probably wouldn't do it again any different, had some laughs... better than dying my hair black and sitting in my bedroomwriting poetry and having a good cry!

People moan about 'chavs' at raves, but they sustain the scene to an extent (especially in the north), I've never seen chavs causing trouble anyway, atleast not inside, and if you're at a good event the atmosphere won't allow for it ;)

The top DJ's, promoters, labels and record distributors are doing a far better job at killing the scene than any chavs ever could.

Anyways why the **** do you care? Thought you weren't part of that scene according to your last verbal diarrhoea posing as a thread. You're such a hypocritical tosser.
