Was just wondering what everyone has they're eq at generally when they're mixing? I usually pump the bass with mid just past the middle and the treble at 3/4

For recording, I'm similar to Jaxon
If live, it depends on the venue and the sound system. Often I'll tend to exagerate the bass at top end a little bit, but only when I'm not playing Hardcore.

I tend to leave it at 0, but i'll play around with it to bring out certain sections of the track

Usually have the mid & treble just over odb, with the base just a bit lower. I tweak the bass according to the track but not always the other two. Might try JaXoN's way sometime, it might clear up some of the sounds and make them crisper.

I blast the bass just short of causing distortion, then move the treble up a little bit. Then mess around to get the parts I want more noticable more noticable.

Wow wtf
Leave the EQ knobs at 0db unless you're in the mix or doing tricks
The track is mastered to be played with all the bands at 12 oclock so you shouldn't be doing that, especially not on a big system (the dj booth monitors are COMPLETELY unrelated to what the main system sounds like so you shouldn't be adjusting your EQ according to that)
If you do it at home because your speakers suck and you have to compensate that's ok but you should really install an outboard EQ and play tracks like they're meant to be.
If you mean while in the mix... that depends on the mixer, the track, the point in the mix - I could go on and on forever

I don't have any experience on big systems, but it seems like no matter what, no matter what song (except some DnB tracks), no matter what speakers, the bass always seems too small, or at the least, it's not as pounding as I want it to be. Maybe my hearing's shot or I'm compensating for the fact that I can't make it as loud as I want it to be.

usually drop the bass & midline mixing and mix off the high hats, I got used to mixing dnb =P
only time I'll play with the highs is on 303 lines and then it's usually with a flanger or filter added

Like, Brian I mix with Highs and High Mids. But, I only adjust the EQ of the track if it needs adjusting...like if the levels of something I recorded off of vinyl are off and I need to compensate for the difference. Mostly, I just leave it all at 12 o clock.

Umm
I didnt say dont touch the EQ while mixing - I already said my EQing changes constantly when Im in the mix
The original poster means while hes simply playing the track, not when hes in the mix (either way who the hell cranks the bass up while theyre in the mix LOL)
While Im in the mix...depends what style im playing
For kickdrum ill usually drop a track in with the bass off completely (or a bit less depending on the mixer), the mid at 9 oclock (again, dpeends on mixer) and the highs at 10 oclock.
Then the mids will go up a bit and the highs will go to 11 oclock (again...mixer...) right before the bassline switch (at which point the bass goes to 12 oclock and the bass on the track I was mixing gets cut, and the mids go up to 11-12 on the track I just mxied in)
I wont even specify the EQ settings on the track Im mixing out of because you can figure out that they change too
As for breakbeat - depends on the track, I generally have highs higher up and mix in the hi hats, the mids a bit lower so theres no clashing of off key sounds and the bass at 9 oclock.
When it comes time to switch basslines the 9 oclock bass goes on the track im mixing out of and the track thats mixing in goes to 12 oclock. The mids also "switch"
all of this stuff can vary depending on mixer, track, etc. though
Generally (unless its a worn record you have to compensate for) EQs shouldnt go past 12 oclock, especially on a club system and especially not if youre not even in the mix! The track should be mastered for playing with no EQing at all and unless its not dont **** with it.
And as I said, dj booth monitors never sound like the big system (ie they have less bass, etc.) so you cant use them to EQ your track to what it should sound like. And I doubt youll go on the dancefloor to tweak the EQ while youre mixing LOL
So dont **** with it, its already mastered.
