Meh ;P Maybe next time.

Clarke - Yeah that's the impression I'm getting. Perhaps I'll get it in 5 years time when I buy my next computer ;).

You getting it from www.pcspecialist.co.uk then bulby, I recognise the layout from when I built mine there

Said you're going down to XP, wise choice. Microsoft final release is any other companies alpha release, then they just patch all the shit up over the next 12-18 months.

I'd recommend getting a DX9 card for the moment and upgrade to the 8800GTS in 12 months, price's will have plummeted with the imminent release of a barrage load of DX10 cards on the horizon. 7800GT will easily suffice every game out and every game being released in the near future.

Get a second HDD, 250GB is not enough for music production and games. Game releases now are over 10GB unpatched or unmodded with new addons or maps or anything. I have a 350GB and a 160GB external and need to put in a slave HDD soon.

The PSU's from the place (that is if it is www.pcspecialist.co.uk) are good, I remember having concern about them and e-mailing them about it. They're the FSP brand which make good PSU's. Not the best out but still near the top of the pile with high efficiency and not too loud noise.

Cheers mate. Will take a look at doing that then. You think the saving of upgrading to an 8800GTS will be bigger than the cost of throwing away a 7800GT in a year?

If so I may do it. Might buy an extra hard drive with the cash too :)

Must admit though I haven't used up my 200GB one in my current comp' and that's shared with other people. I don't store lots of music on it (just my own tracks). That said though I don't get many games now and that would change if I had a better comp'!

He has changed back between Vista and Xp a few times since but has no stuck with xp at least until the first service pack comes out for Vista.

just had a qucik scim of the thread sorry if any of this has been covered

as someone staed a second harddrive would be useful - using partition magic make your only hard drive in to 2 therefore you can have a backup in places in case of formatting.

try and avoid vista as of yet there ios so many bugs and alot of software doesn't run 100% on that, unless you have xp already you could dual boot

the post about buying a mac, as you said you trying to save cash it would stupid to go spend so much on a mac if for approx half the price you can get a pc with the same specs

all mac fanboys should refer to this page http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant

first: dont use maddox as back up in an argument. Also you missed the disclaimer "2,439,323 Mac fans switched back over to Windows, even though Windows is just as shitty."

second: i hope you never have to do any programing with your XP (or vista). If you do, good luck

I never said windows wasn't shitty!

But if you think i will be paying double for a mac that has the same specs as a pc then you would be sadly mistaken!

I have no idea what teh comment about whistling in the dark is about but anyway i'll leave you 2 fan boy to play with each other:)

Compared to all the "anti windows" sites (that use actual facts to prove their point) if thats the response from pro windows users, then i'd rather be a mac user o_O

people who say vista is full of bugs are FULL of crap.

the only real problems there have been is people installing stuff that wasnt yet vista compatible - which is way back in january.

its been over 6 months, all the major software companys and even most of the small ones have updated their software - and if they hadnt, they would be loosing a serious amount of money right now.

as a technician ive been working on customers computers since it was released to the public. before that i was using the beta and then RC1 and 2.

latest one people/custys like to say is "ill wait till a service pack comes out"

yeaaaa...service pack isnt going to offer that much more - any security enhancements or compatibilty problems that arise are fixed on the spot and release in KB articles and windows updates - as long as your up-to-date on those your fine.

think you'll find that the "service pack" alot of people babble on about is just going to be full of updates that have already been released - but people forgot or didnt install and extra gagets and mini-programs, least thats what alot of the newsletters from MSexpertzone have said. MS know that people are "waiting for the service pack" and will totally use that to their advantage to get people over there stupid windows vista feers.

get vista, dont be a wuss. :)

*edit*
sweet comptuer by the way, ya cant go wrong with the Core2's the flyyyyyyy!
and you should throw in a tv tuner card just for the sake of it.

and another hard drive or 2 :P
