you're not going to get a decent mixer with effects on it for $180.

I'd recommend staying away from behringer & gemini...there's a reason they're so cheap =P

for vinyl I'd look at

happyhardore.com
imorecords.com
subsonicunderground.com (in california you can try emailing simon)
juno.co.uk

Alright thanks guys.
I don't know what mixer I'm going to get.
I'll look into it some and see what I can do. I'll be checking out my local Sam Ash music store soon because I know they sell all this stuff.

But we'll see how everything goes.

Alright maybe I'll just get a battle mixer then. Also can you guys give me the names of some good reliable companies, seeing as how you say some aren't very good. I'm guessing Numark and Pioneer are both good stuff... but what else should I look for???

id recoment getting a djm300 second hand and saving up for an efx500, second hand also! these are both top quality kit that will last ages, and will also sell on very well if / when you want a 4 channel mixer

What mixer would you suggest getting for under 250? =]

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=djm+300&category0=

Its basically a djm 600 but it only has two channels instead of 4 and it has no effects.

If you really want effects you can save up a few more $ and get an efx500, its similar to the djm600 effects but better.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=efx+500

Im not 100% sure if this would work without having send/return on the mixer, im sure someone will know if you ask about though.

Another mixer to check out would be the vestax pcv 275 which would definatly take the efx 500. It might be just outside your price range, cant be 100% sure though cause you dont pay tax in america so it might be ok

Your best bet wld be to get two 2nd hand 1210's or 1200's and a cheap basic mixer
Theres no need for FX's when your just starting out, it's all about the beatmatching
and you more chance of confusing yourself if you got FX's to mess about with
O and if you learn to mix on these you'll be able to mix on anything

Or two cdj200's/400's with a basic mixer if you want to save money in the long run as cd's
are alot cheaper than vinyl, but saying that there nothing like the feel of mixing vinyl

This may help for your mixing aswell

Ok I think I'm split between the decks I want to get. I either want to get a set of Numark TTX's or a set of Numark TT500's. Or I can get one of both and have some variety? (dunno if that's smart). If I buy them used they were perfectly in my price range, and I read good things about them both. I hear the 500's are just like the TTX's except that they don't have the digital features but I hear that the 500's have more powerful of a motor as well.

and for a mixer, I'll just go to a local samash and look around. But are these good ideas for the deck?

The TTX1's are my fav decks to use was gutted to **** wen i had to sell mine

Not used the 500's but heard good things about them, if was to go for vinyl deck again
down the line i wld go for 500's as i get drawed in to lookin at digital clock while in the mix

The only thing i wld say tho is that if you find yourself good enough to play out
your goin to find it hard mixing on 1210's as almost all club's use them
(Well might not be the same over there in the US but thats what it's like over here)
The torque the numark has is unreal so when you go to use 1210's it can feel like they are made by fisher price...lol

Haha alright man. I don't plan on playing in any clubs anytime soon but maybe later on down the road. By then I'll probably pick up some 1210's or some CDj's I dunno though. I thought you were allowed to bring your own set up? Isn't that allowed at some clubs and whatnot?

I can't wait to start doing this, I've got so many ideas I want to make come to life.

Standard club set up is two 1210'/1200's DJM600 and two CDJ1000'S
Well thats what is in most dj's contracts before booking them
Mixer can change from club to club but never not seen 1200's or 1000's in a
club and i have been to almost every big club around the england

The only DJ's who bring there own stuff are the 1's who do live acts
plus you dont want to be bringing your stuff with you as you cld get any
dickhead down the front to knock a drink over or something then your ****ed

I wld say defo get one of them books i put up before
such i easy enjoyable read and you'll pick up alot

Mate it's all about having fun at the end of the day
When i had decks it was for my own fun

When you get your decks learn the basic's and just have fun and one
day it will just click then you can start messing about with FX's and that

this is the best deal you'll ever find: http://djdeals.com/vestaxVMC185XL.htm

don't buy Numark or Stanton or Behringer - no matter what people here say (they are probably still bedroom DJs), those are garbage that should be avoided like the plague

Vestax, Rane, Ecler, Pioneer and Allen & Heath are solid. Any used models from those brands will do wonders without having too much BS to them.

The Vestax I'm linking you to is an amazing mixer for an amazing price. Super reliable, no effects but everything you'll ever need.

When you mix you don't need effects, especially not when starting.
