I've just recently bought myself a set of Sennheiser HD25 1-II & a pair Pro Guard Custom earplugs as i'm deadly serious about doing, long term damage to my ears. Altogether, for the headphones & the earplugs, I paid 300pounds & am happy to pay as you can't put a price on saving your hearing & once the damage is done, it can't be fixed. Part of the 100pound asking price, for the earplugs, covers an appointment with a local specialist who takes a mould of your ears & sends it back to the Pro Guard Company then they just make the ear plugs to suit you ear cast.
I've never had the best set of lugs to start with as I had operations on them when I was really young when I had bust my eardrum. I don't want to take any chances & getting used to the earplugs now can only be a good thing in long run. I'm only 21 & from talking to other HHC.com members, I know how heartbreaking it would be to lose or permenently damage my hearing as it would stop me doing what I love. Music is my life & to pay 100pounds for a set of custom earplugs which will keep those damaging frequencies out, is a price well worth paying!
What's everyones views on this & I know there's a few people on here that suffer from mild tinitis & I would greatly value their opinions just to make it known that your hearing isn't invincible & it would be a good idea to start saving;-)

Always wanted to get a pair but not something I've ever got round too! Don't know how it would be for making tunes tbh. :-/ But I'd love some for DJ'ing and parties!

Yeah, you really should bulby. They don't change the sound so much that you couldn't produce with them it just takes the harshness off of the sound & stops any damage. Part of the deal is an appointment with a loca specilist who gives you a full check up & takes the mould of your ear to send back to Pro Guard. Once they get the moulds they make your earplugs custom to your own ear shape & size & send them back out to you. here's the website for the full details mate;-)

no probs man, as I say, well worth a look as you can't really put a price on your hearing. i'm not waiting to get forced into buying them because i've ended up getting mild tinitis, i'm getting them now, getting used to wearing them & stopping the damage before it starts to show itself & I hope this thread will inspire other DJ/Producers on here to get themselves a set before they do too much damage.

I'm sure I seen an interview with Scott Brown where he mentioned he had got a pair of earplugs for DJ'ing whilist he was in Holland. I'm he sure he citied that he didn't want to go deaf as the reason for doing so. I'd hazard a gues that he is not the only pro hat has done so, probably well worth it for anyone who is serious about mixing.

I had that illness which i was completely deaf in my left ear. I worry a lot about my hearing now too. Luckily its clearing up now although i do still have a cracking noise. Those earplugs sound like a good investment.

MJ Dream: yeah man, well worth the money. Great for keeping background noise out & the sound quality is unreal it's just that these headphones have made me realise that earplugs are a great idea cause i've only had them for a week & my ****ing right ear is sore already. The cue level is so sensitive with them so you hardly need to turn them up at all mate & I think I over done it a bit:-( so i've taken a couple of day's off from them for now & probably wont go back to them till I get these earplugs sorted but my ears are quite sensitive as it is so this probably wont happen to you but just watch yourself man;-) Also, the guy in the shop said that they are putting the price up to 200 soon so u might want to grab a pair quickly lol
Yeah Watson, a lot of the big names use these now & probably better ones to stop the the nasty frquencies ripping your ears to f**k! well worth the money if your serious about mixing & with this Radio Station i've started up, it's a goood time to get them.
Spoox, i'm glad to hear you're hearing a bit better now man. I've taken the advice from guy's like yourself as I don't want to go through the same thing man & I hope this thread will inspire more of the younger DJ's to splash out if they are really serious about mixing. I'm only 21 but u don't have to tell me twice when my hearing is at stake!!!

Yeah, he has custom moulded Etymotic earplugs.
I have those too. Personally, I have the ER-15s (reduce sound by 15dB across the whole frequency spectrum...it's a pretty flat reduction so you can still mix with them). Mine cost me 160$ CAN to get moulded. I've gotten two pairs made cause someone stole my first one (idiots...).
Unfortunately, I can't mix with them - my ear canal is SUPER narrow so the earplug has to stick out of my ear a bit...so if I have a headphone on it presses on it and changes the sound. Most people would be able to do it fine though.
As for Sennheiser HD-25s... Some people like them, some don't. I *HATE* them. Too light and flimsy for me, and they don't sit "right" on my head. I find the cups too small so I can never get them perfectly on my ear quickly (when I mix my headphones go on and off non stop) - and I can't use "half a cup" like I can with my Pioneer HDJ-1000s.
Different strokes for different folks.

U said it Dain-ja. Everyone's got their own opinions. I've got my Earplugs on the way man. To be honest i'm not putting those f**king HD-25's on again until I get them. They really are hardcore on the ears.
Can't believe someone stole yours, how thick can u get LMFAO!!!!!

Yep I got custom earplugs made up for playing out. I had this one gig at the start of the year and my hearing was muffled from it in one ear for a solid week afterwards. I freaked out and was totally scared that it was not going to return... thankfully it did and I went straight out and got custom made earplugs made up. Best purchase I have ever made I think.
The gigs after that my hearing is fine right afterwards and it dosent impare mixing etc.. its a seriously good investment to make.

I know a couple of people who have "Tinnitus"... It's basically a constant (or permanent rather) ringing or buzzing in the ear(s) caused by long term ear abuse lol. Not always but, 90 percent of the time, yeah.
Only thing about headphones, it really pisses me off because when i wear them for long periods of time (almost every headphone type), they really hurt my ear from the constirction!!! It's actually far more annoying than it sounds, cos now constantly i can only mix down for short periods of time usually because it's really uncomfortable for me to concentrate...
