I hear loads ov people arguing about who's more of a dj.. The ones that play vinyl or the ones who choose the latest technology and go for the cd decks.....
My OPINOIN is vinyl it's more challenging, BUT....I dont blame people who go for the cd's as u can do certain things that you just cant do with vinyl....
What do u think..
Lets hear the DJ's voice's

I like Vinyl cause I don't want to press the same effect buttons as everyone else & do the same stuff over & over. The things that a DJ can do with a set of Turntables is unreal & I think sum CD spinners prefer to forget about that & go CD anyway. All the CDJ's are doing the same tricks. I mean how can u push the limits more than they are already. VINYL! VINYL! VINYL! :-P

Yea i totally agree m8 im a vinyl dj and think when you look @ the likes of gammer there aint much more you can do what he does!!! With the button pressing aswell they all sound the same on there mixes... and i think that when they had that festival over france ( i think it was) THEY BANNED CD DECKS!!
I think when you enter compitions aswell its unfair on vinyl dj's as they (cdj's) can get there hands on unreleased tracks, Even tho they shouldn't be playing them they get away with it...
What's your thoughts on that??

Jesus, how many times do we have to go through this?
Use whatever you want.
Some of my mates report [borat]great success[/borat] with alarm clocks, athough personally I don't think anything comes even close to a didgeridoo. You know, it's just genuine, with this unbeatable analogue feel...
Just watch me mix it up:

Yeah, I don't care really these days. As long as the mixing is clean, there is some variety and the tunes are good.
FTR I mix mainly with Vinyl and use Serato to play a few digi' tunes.

vinyl for me and has been since I started, Only thing is i got a shot of some cdj's and had a proper mix on them and i really did like useing them, so im kind of 50/50,
Any time I have played out at events I always use Vinyl, but come on its like 10 quid for a record and 1.99 for a mp3? you work out where the saving is for the cdj-dj,
Tbh you can get more technical with cdj's but I do agree the effects and looping is getting a bit past it now. as already said Gammer has done it all, and im sure there wont be much else you can do with them,
Just hope when they bring out the new version pionner they have new effects on them.
so VINYL for meeee :)

First decent reply i've seen to this topic so far. I don't care what is used. If you can mix, can make a great selection and take the crowd on a journey (whether its through the years of a genre, or cross sub-genres with good fluidity for example) and keep them happy (through reading what their reactions to each tune are) as far as i'm concerned, that makes a DJ.

what makes a better producer? one who does a live pa or one who pre records all their stuff and plays it as a whole song? id say someone who does a live pa, that dosent mean that those who pre record their tunes are crap or untalented though does it. its the song/mix that matters at the end of the day

What makes a DJ is his or her ability to keep its listeners interested and to take them somewhere, let them experience something.
With dance music, most people hear awesome songs from a set, and not because they randomly found it on a DJ store.

if you want to do stuff like scratching, I would say vinyl, but if you're playing to top tunes or just play, i'd say any format you can use.
Even Hardcore should evolve, nt just musically, also technically
